Simple. PC gaming is now being linked directly to piracy. Even though it's just as bad on consoles... *shrugs*

CD keys have never helped quell piracy. I'd argue that it's far easier to pirate on PC because you don't have to have your pc modded, you just use a cd/dvd emulator or burn a disc.

I apologize in advance if my comments are off the mark, because I'm not able to pull up the source but ill give my .02

He seems to have a valid opinion by default, because competing companies never trust eachother. His point is so far off the mark its sad.

Will MS get rid of GFWL? Will EA stop their crap system? To focus on valve is to pretend the whole dev-publisher system is perfect.

Plus the vast majority of sales are still brick&mortar. Vavle has a lot of leverage but very little actual power. there may come a day when Valve may rub a company the wrong way, but there are other DD options, and valve can easily be replaced.

Well you have to pay for the service and the "protection" which isn't working at all. So it's kind of money wasted don't you think.

A bean-counting CEO tries to drum up some controversy with a provocative statement, and a bunch of devs with actual experience working with Valve/Steam say they don't have any problem. So, ok.

And of course Borderlands is available on Steam.

Its no more a conflict of interests than your average publisher so your point is moot.

indeed but you have to mod each game you install (or... crack if you will).
meanwhile you do it only once on the consoles, and you can do just about anything.

No. Not it isn't.
Piracy happens on all platforms but it isn't financially breaking like it is on PC. The number of piraters-to-gamers is disproportionate on PC relative to consoles.

And I'll break out the logic that it isn't hurting them financially since they never had a sale to begin with. Who's to say someone who pirates games, if prevented from doing so, would go out and purchase games.
