I agree that the Gamecube looked pretty good when set alongside a PS1 but the PS2 and Xbox came along and at that point it was pretty much over.

I personally think that it was the 'Cubes library that killed it. There were way too many kiddie-centric games for my tastes.

Serves them right, I knew Nintendo couldn't last once they screwed over their entire fanbase and started making exercise machines.

Install base does not mean a ton as hardware is not the big money maker. Xbox360 is crushing competition in terms of software purchases per system. Last I checked I believe Wii was way way behind (like 2 or 3 titles per Wii). Most people don't care about anything aside from a few base titles. Nobody who is really into gaming has a Wii only. Nobody is going to buy cross-platform titles on a Wii given the choice.

Nintendo seems like they're in their own little world..... this is their current business model...

Console launch:
---->Secure Good launch games, hype, preach "Potential"

Ride on successes until sales dip:
---->Release new hardware colors/revisions/features that should have been included at launch but refresh the brand all the same.

Game release schedule:
---->Saving their very few first party AAA titles for the late november-holiday season. and hoping that 3rd parties can satisfy a barron landscape of game releases through the year; with the odd "B" title that you buy because there arent any other alternatives.

Repeat every 5 years unless the market allows for a longer period.

/rant

But yeah, black Wii is definately on its way.

True, it's not the big money maker; but in the Wii's case, Nintendo broke the conventional razor/blades model and was making a profit on every Wii console sold right from day one. So a drop in console sales of this size actually would translate to a hefty drop in profit for them.

I don't like Nintendo basically ignoring their longtime gamers, but the Wii was still fun for me. Always fun to play any iteration of SSB with your friends. I do prefer the Gamecube controller scheme for games like that, though.

That's what most people don't know. Most games offer you the ability to use the Gamecube controller. FPS, however, totally work better with the Wii remote + Nunchuk.

Man people want way too much Nintendo. They Gave a resonable price for the system, every game they put out is good. Hardware faults are very low. The only problem is the 3rd party games that developers get lazy with. I forget if its the 360 or the Wii but I believe that the Wii is easier to develop for and that is why there are a ton of no name games out, but also they are not the same price as other games.

I can bet that Nintendo is finally happy that they are getting some third party support this time unlike 64, and the cube. If developers took their time they can make any game look good. Zelda looks better then some 360 games that came out at launch, Mario is some nice eye candy.
