Yah, they do now,but how long can they support something so "poures" as the PS3. And you have to admit the dawn of the new consoles is not to far off. Lets say 5 years? That means that sony has to make up for all money loss so far on PS3, and then turn a profit and I'm assuming they are looking for a sizeable one to the magnitude the PS2 brought. I'm not sure they could accomplish that. Sony's great financial clout makes it a lumbering elephant they have all this 'stuff' going on all over the market which dosen't make it the best competitor to a company; for instance "Nintendo" that is very focused to 'gamers' which many of us are including I. It's easy to imagine Sony becoming irrevelant. I beleived they are so misfocused/mismanaged they they arn't even going to know they are out of it when they are, If that ever happens. Sometimes it seems when ever nothing sems right for them.... we all get fed media from them regarding things that don't neccesarliy matter i.e. PS home. I dunno really, and obviously. But I guess just for argumentivly........ Keep our noodles cook'n

Step3)If you have a PS2 you can get the BIOS.

The newer Slim PS3 doesn't have Linux compatibilities, so no profit.

Im happy with my PS3, if their making a loss oh well. Its not a very sounding financial decision but their other division shouldn't be doing as bad.

Sony is a massive conglomerate of portable, home, audio and car electronics, as well as music.

So the similarities stop there. Sega was Sega, Sony is too diversified to compare.

I'm planning on waiting until about March to buy a PS3, waiting for God of War 3 and GT5. However, if the PS3s had backwards compatibility with all of my PS2 games, I'd be buying one in the next week or two.

The similarties stop there? The PS2 is what allows for Sony to get involved in all those other markets.... That's how awesome the Ps2 is/was. I'm not sure the Ps3 is going to be able to 'float' all sony's pet projects the way the Ps2 has and arguably is to this day. Sony may be more than a video game company, but it's the house playstion built..... And maintains. And all sytems sell based on their games and quality of games. All the other features are great, but no matter the system it all comes back to games, games games. What's the first thing people think when they are about to purchase, 'what game am I get'n?'. Then every other question is next, hdd, blueray etc. Games was the lacking support for dreamcast, and it's arguably the same for the Ps3; albeit nowhere near the problem it was for the dreamcast, but a common problem.

Sony has been around since 1946 and they were huge before they even came up with Playstation. Sony's existence does not depend on how many (or little) PS3s are being sold, although I'm sure they'd rather have the former.

Edit: Ironicly a good example is Microsoft. They lost TONS of money from the original Xbox, but it really didn't phase them at all, and they still went on the release a second console.
