Probably because it woudl be a pain to launder money into their country from said bank accounts. With online game currency it can be sold everywhere anonomously. Hell I bet there are tons of people who use on online game for money laundering purposes.

I don't know much about that I'm afraid, but I do know that RMT in MMOs is extremely profitable and I'd wager stealing game accounts is not only easier, but much safer than trying to jack someone's bank account.

How.. is.. this... news?

This has been happening since UO! Earlier, with MUSHes and such. EQ was ungodly terrible with this, so many stories of people losing so much.

This is just one of those standard stories I see popping up every 3-6 months. For years. Seriously. We get the idea.

scamming, or stealing stuff in games, or game accounts is allot easier, and safer then doing it with bank accounts, mainly because if you get caught doing it with games, worst thing that can happen is you get banned

doing that same stuff with bank accounts might score you one for a short period of time, before you are busted, and sent to jail for computer theft, simply because you can't transfer the cash, or spend it without being traced

just sayin from common sense, i honestly hate scammers, but what can ya do about em, anti cheat systems don't work and are easily worked around

best way to avoid getting scammed is to use common sense, and don't trust people
if it's to good to be true, it probably is


don't trust emails sent out to you about your account, and use a good internet security software to detect keyloggers etc

Used to back in the day. All my friends did it Nothing to brag about really, a level 65 bandit in about a year (on and off playing). I still go on just for the lulz.
