I agree. This just seems like another way for Blizzard to cash in the big bucks and cover it up by giving half to charity. Think about it, MANY more people will get pets now because some of the proceeds are going to charity and they believe they are doing a good deed. If Blizzard was truly generous, they wouldn't try to profit off of a charity organization, and instead donate most if not all of the proceeds to Make a Wish.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very glad that a lot of money is going towards charity. I'm just peeved that Blizzard would actually use a charity as a marketing tactic to profit off of.

Are some of you forgetting that Blizzard isn't a private corporation? Blizzard has to answer to its shareholders that have one goal in mind and that's generating a profit. I'm not defending or attacking Blizzard, but just pointing out a simple fact. If I was a shareholder and had a vested interest, I'd encourage anything Blizzard did that put more money in my pocket.

Look at this way: donating part of the profit to charity entices more people to purchase the pets. As Valve have shown with crazy discounts, often -- losing profit on one purchase leads to greater profit overall, especially when there is next-to-zero cost associated with the product, so 'breaking even' is defined as giving them out for free.

It goes past most people that they can simply donate $10 to Make-A-Wish if they so choose. Most people don't think of it without analyzing. This results in a lot of WoW players who just want to donate and don't care much for the pet buying the pet anyway.

Yes because everything in life is a conspiracy theory. Like I said, every time someone tries to do something nice, someone will always have to complain about it. Pretty sure Blizzard just wanted to give some of the money people are ALWAYS whining they should give away, to a good cause. When they finally do it people complain. Isn't life grand? Maybe I'm just the only positive one here, but I do agree with you to an extent.

I know no one will agree with me here because blizzard is one of the "all mighty godly take your money because they can". Really I could care less though.

There's no limit to Blizzard's greed.
11 million suscribers? Not enough.
Services like:
Player Character Transfer? Not enough.
Name Change? Not enough.
Character Customization? Not enough.
Faction Transfer? Not enough.

Coming up next? Mount shop.

And after that? Gear shop.

Soon we wont be able to get sh|t via in game playing. Spend $100 and you get fully geared max lvl character.
At least they are giving signs that WoW's time is running out.
And no I'm not a hater, I have 2 active accounts.

Whatever they are doing its good.. not all the other companies are doing the same thing. So, no harm in praising their efforts, even if it brings more profit to them.

It's interesting that I read an article by Milton Friedman (I will link if anybody is interested; it is verbose though) which suggested that a company should never donate to charity because the shareholders can do so themselves through profits. He came to the conclusion that although this is true, because there is no transparency in the individual's contribution if the company donates instead it makes the donation more visible and it can increase profits indirectly.

Either way, Blizzard is still giving you the choice.

And that's probably why they made such a huge profit while other companies floundered this year.

I suggest you go look up the definition of conspiracy theory, because nothing anybody mentioned in this thread comes even close to any kind of conspiracy lol.

It is a simple marketing tactic. They will sell more if people see part is going to charity, that is pretty much a fact. It is very nice that the charity is getting money in the end, and I support that, but you have to understand that Blizzard's marketing team did this only with profit in mind. This is understandable because it is their job to bring the company more revenue, but imo using a charity as a marketing tactic is despicable.

The fact that you don't understand how this works confuzzles me.
