Both Assassin’s Creed II and Modern Warfare 2 are seeing a shift in platform choice that favours the PS3, according to OTX.

Why defect? Gamasutra’s report doesn’t speculate on that, but one might assume the reasons are two-fold. In the case of Modern Warfare 2, the option to play the game’s multiplayer portions without the need for an Xbox Live Gold account may be a factor.

The other may simply be the expanded PS3 console ownership following the system’s recent price drop. Both titles appear to be feature equal, but the allure of buying games for the new console you just invested in, well, that might be enough to make the switch. Any other theories?

Once you have both consoles, it isn't really "defecting", it is purely deciding which version of the game will be a better choice for you. In this case, I agree with both points in the quote on why this is happening.

360 has been around for quite a while now. Almost everybody I know who is into gaming has one.

PS3 is JUST RECENTLY finally becoming affordable. So a lot of people are picking them up now.

Six months ago I knew two guys with PS3s - one has a six figure job and only uses it as a blue ray player, the other one it in a contest.

Now I know at least a dozen.

I earned my money doing odd jobs to buy myself my Fatty PS3. Affordability meant nothing to me. I WANTED ONE.

Of course there are always people who will "need" it, and affordability will mean nothing to them.

But for people who have budgets and full time jobs, it wasn't a real tough choice... the PS3 didn't offer a whole lot versus XBox 360's catalog until recently, and then the price drop... PS3 is a good buy now.

This isn't worth arguing... just look up the numbers.

The only reason I haven't sold my 360 yet is because it looks like GT5 might be a whole year away now.

Yes but your wants don't apply to the majority of people who will buy a console on a budget based on affordability and the gaming library offered. The PS3 is essentially just now settling in for bigger sales because of it

It's not defecting, it's buying whichever platform for the games you want to play.

The whole argument about which console is better is stupid and immature. It doesn't matter if console A is supreme if it doesn't have the game you want to play, but mindless fanboys will be fanboys.

I don't think you understood what he meant. He's saying affordability does not matter as long as you want it bad enough; you'll find ways to make that money and buy the things you want.

Not whining and crying for a price drop or biitching that something is too expensive. Those people are called "losers".
