Default [BNG] Infinity Ward Declined Big Budget for Modern Warfare 2

Quote:
You'd think a blockbuster title like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 would have a insanely massive budget. We learned from Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling that this wasn't the case. In fact, Infinity Ward declined the ginormous budget Activision proposed for the game and managed to stay frugal.

No wonder the campaign is shorter than MW1's. This is actually pretty smart. They know that any Call of Duty game will sell many copies, and if they spend less money to make a bad game that will be bought up as much as a more expensive good game, they will make a lot of money.

Wait though, I read a article from VG or Joystiq or one of those past few weeks saying Activision gave them the biggest budget to date in their company.

And they turned it down!

(This is the 2nd article that has said this)

Exactly.

Damn, I wish I had stocks in Activision before WoW and CoD came out.

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/11/03/initial-modern-warfare-2-budget-was-ridiculous/

"Much like we don't let ourselves get distracted by hype, if you have excess you feel like you should use excess," Bowling said. Even though Activision "estimated out a ridiculous budget" early on, Infinity Ward "didn't let the budget affect [its] mentality." Since Infinity Ward apparently didn't take the money (or, at least, all of it), we do have a pretty good idea of what Activision spent it on: night-vision goggles for everyone!

/sigh. Can't wait to pay for map packs too.
They refused the larger budget so the game should have a cheaper MSRP right? Wait...

just like how games distributed digitally SHOULD BE CHEAPER, but of course consumers wont see that trickle down effect. its greed, quite simply.

Obviously Infinity Ward is more concerned about the quality of their games rather pumping as much as they can into the games, which should be a breath of fresh air to gamers.
keyboard and mouse support, and ingame chat, amirite?

i can't help but think that site is console centric

part of that has to do with server costs. i know they should be cheaper, and i agree, but it isn't that simple
