I've never been to a console lan but I have been to many PC lans and hosted a few PC lans over the years.
Heres a list of some of the games we've played over the years plus more but I cant remember them right now: Starcraft, Kohan, Alien vs. Predator 2, AoE II-III, CoD 1-5(not 3), UT 99 2003 2004 2007, Supreme Commander, Star Wars Battlefront I-II, Quake III, SoF2, GTA 2, GTA VICE (multiplayer mod), Crysis (attempted...) Pretty much you shouldn't go to a PC lan unless you have a system to bring with you or one will be provided. Don't go to a PC lan to share a PC, it's pretty pointless. Also as mentioned before, dont bring speakers to PC lans, it pisses people off.

Great guide! The one thing I do to prepare that I didn't see listed is get the current patches for the games we are playing. A majority of my LANs are actually without internet so having the needed files before hand saves a TON of time and frustration.
__________________My 2 cents: The best LANs (IMO) were with the follow games: Dawn of War (first one) and DOTA. Left 4 Dead and Diablo II. (with a smaller group). Getting 6 to 8 people together for some Sins of a Solar Empire this holiday weekend! Might only get one game in since... oh they take like 15 hrs!! lol Cant wait! Still want to try out Supreme Commander, but most of my friends cant support it yet.
