Default OCN Soul Calibur IV thread.

I thought i would go ahead and start this thread since the game comes out in nine days. I'm excited, I was extremely disappointed in Soul calibur 3 considering how broken it was taking the game away from its tourney capable roots. Even though this version did not get an arcade release so that the glitches and broken characters could be found and reported, just like soul calibur 3, the game is online and could be patched if needed. I am hoping this will allow Soul calibur IV to be the most balanced of them all. Either way I am a fan and have a loved the series since soul edge in the arcade.

-----------------------------My Initial SCIV Review--------------------------------
I have been playing this game pretty exclusively for around 3 or 4 hours
a night. I want to say its broken based on what a few characters that can do with multiple unbreakable stuns, (for example mitsu has an overhead stun that comes out really quick from there he can restun you with a second move and then do an ender, Amy has some stuff like this as well) however the damage scaling is better than any game i have ever seen. Also this game has so many tech traps and cool set ups that its just plain fun.

I must admit when I first heard about the soul crush system I thought
it was stupid ,and that I would hate it. How wrong I was, It adds a whole
new element to offensive and defensive stratagies, and makes matches that
much more exciting. My first impressions on Soul Calibur IV? I love it.

I've been playing it a fair amount the past three days and I've never seen a Soul Crush actually used in battle. It's just so people don't block too much, which they don't. The story mode is very short (5 battles) and doesn't really make any sense. I have a feeling I wasted $60 on this game

Um I'm confused you bought a fighting game for the story? Anyway once you get more into it you will see how the soul crushing comes into play. I still havent done the Create a Character mode, I have heard great things though.

Well, seeing as to how the title was Soul Cailbur and made by Nemco I thought a good story was a given. Remember SC1 and 2 and it's story? It was pretty good. It's the story that makes me care about using those players to fight with. I realize it has some pretty deep fighting aspect added to the game which is very good when fighting with others. I don't have any real life friends who like fighting video games and I also don't like waiting so long for one of the PSN games to start and crossing my fingers that it doesn't decide to kick me off anytime soon.

I miss weapon master mode (conquest mode). It actually gave me something with goals and objectives to do, rather than just beat the story mode with each character. And they found ways to break it up so it was more fun. Like exploding floor. And ice terrain.

And I am really pissed that theres no team battle vs. mode. That would have made me happy in itself. In SCII We used to go 8 character random, and play until the end. It was the true test of SoulCalibur skill. They've taken that away as of III, and I was really hoping for it in IV

Other than that, the fighting system is pretty well balanced. Yes, certain characters get more powerful and more frequent unbreakables. But others get invisibility (Taki), others get instand soul gage, others get instant dash, I mean, if you work with what you are given, you can use it to your advantage. I enjoy a lot of the new characters, and the old characters seem to have progressed a bit. I dont like that all the moves have changed drastically (for example, from first glance Amy has Raphael's original moves from SCII, and Raphael's move set is completely different... although I like his new move set, it would have been nice to see his old move set on HIM, not on Amy. Although Amy is freaking hot, and I like playing her anyway. So its not that big of a deal. I would actually rather play Amy since she is like gothic lolita and i want to fill her up with babies.) Cassandra's moves have gotten crazy and awesome. Hilde is amazing. Vader... well, is Vader. I didnt get the story behind his inclusion. I read through it and it sounded kind of half-assed. But, it was the same way with Spawn, Link, and Heihachi in SCII, and I didnt care then, so why should I care now.

You get to customize your in-game characters also. Each character slot has 48 extra places for custom costumes, and there are rings and jewels you can buy to give your character better stats. I haven't really looked into this extensively yet, but it looks like you could use it to make the game "unbalanced". I suppose that's why there are two versus modes online.
