Default [Mercury] PS3 DROPS PRICES, adds video download

Sony isn't going to let the xbox take the market with its price-dropping and video download ploy..... they're gonna do it too!

Quote:
LOS ANGELES - In a bid to regain lost ground in the fiercely competitive gaming business, Sony announced Tuesday that it will cut the price of its high-end PlayStation 3 console by $100. It also will introduce downloads of movies and TV shows to the game machine's online store and, with some software partners, roll out a number of exclusive games.

dame...i dont want to pay $400 for the 80GB version or the 40GB version, i want to pay $300 for the 40gb version. $400 is too much for a console even if it has top notch hardware and blu-ray not to mention you would need to buy those expensive games and controllers.

Hhmm, I guess they wanted to make as much money on the MGS bundle as possible, then lower it right after that market was already maximized. Now they're just trying to get everyone that is on the fence still. I can see how all the MGS bundle people would be upset, having price cuts come a month after purchasing.

I believe this has been posted.

I don't think this is so great as far as what the consumer gets. Basically we got 40 more GB for the same $400. Solid, just nothing special. I would rather see a new "high-end" model with no backwards compatibility, 4 USB ports, card readers, and a 250GB hard drive for $500. I think people would go for that in addition to this 80GB low-end model.

Think about it...this makes the 40GB version worth a lot less. eBay.

And if $400 was too much for a console, I don't think Microsoft would have sold 20 million Xbox 360s at around that price. Just a thought.

Guys please...do some research. This is simply the 40GB model but with an 80GB hard drive. If you bought the 80GB MGS bundle or whatever, you get 2 more USB ports, flash card readers, SACD support (who cares lol) and emulated PS2 backwards compatibility. The 40GB and new 80GB models have none of those things.
