Is it just me, or does the next 6 months or so = win?
Dead space, left 4 dead, mirror's edge, far cry 2, fallout 3, crysis: warhead, GOW2... the list goes on and on. What a great time to have a 4870.

You missed out: Project Orgin, Need For Speed Undercover,Saints Row 2 ,Prince of Persia,Still Life 2 ,Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction ,Quantum of Solace and Call of Duty: World At War.

So I am not just imagining that there is a ridiculously large amount of ridiculously good looking games coming out in a relatively short period of time?
__________________I'm going to need to save up $800 just for game purchases.

the only trouble is how many of those are FPS games...I am starting to get so tired of the same type of game over and over. Seems like the largest diversion we can get these days is an over the shoulder shooter.

A good portion of them include at least semi-original stories/gameplay elements, and all of them include original artwork.
__________________To me, playing a game is like a virtual art gallery, except it is also a shooting gallery. Additionally, I have no interest in any type of game other than first person, because I like the immersion. I've enjoyed playing 3rd person games such as mass effect and GOW, but honestly I would be thrilled if they never made another 3rd person game again. It is just impossible for me to get tricked into thinking I am actually there when I am staring at my own ass the whole time.

I actually think this year is weak compared to 10 years ago. We saw a lot of new franchises, most of which are arguably the best ever in their genres:

Lets not forget my favorite genre, this year has been pretty good for it as well.
