Default PSP or DS?

DS makes the most sense to me. That is what I get, if I end up getting anything.
Please go here and help me out now
http://www.overclock.net/nintendo/36...rts-games.html
So basically, I'm going on a cross country flight this summer, from Maine to Washington, to visit my family.

Should I get a PSP or a DS? Don't actually tell me which one, just tell me the advantages of both.

PSP seems to have better graphics, while the DS has the Mario franchise and Contra.
Any other games I should be looking out for?

also, once "hacked" or whatever, like with a new OS and stuff, what can each do? How easy is it to install a new OS?
by this I mean something like the R4DS for the DS (or something better), and the counterpart for the PSP.

Or should I just bring a book to read?

I also use my cell phone (I turn off the wireless thingy so yes, it is allowed) to listen to music. Can I do that with either of these devices? While gaming?
how about videos on the DS?

PSP is like a mini media center, it can play movies, music, games and has endless homebrew apps and games.

DS has a better game library and more quick, on the go fun games.

I would go with the PSP. It has so many different capabilities once you install custom firmware. There are alot of cool homebrew apps and media capabilities. You can also listen to music while in-game. I'm sure on that, but you used to be able to with the older custom firmwares.

R4DS is about the best you are going to get, but of course everything you can do like music and what not on the DS is going to be easier on the PSP.

As far as games go it depends what you like.

PSP:
Lumines 1 and 2
Final Fantasy Crisis Core
God of War Chains of Olympus
Wipeout, Burnout
SOCOM Fireteam Bravo

DS:
MarioKart
Tetris and Meteos
Early Final Fantasy Games
Castlevania
The World Ends With You

If you want to watch any movie obviously the PSP.

like you said psp has better graphics etc and call play media files with it's software, but i am not sure if it's just me, i just can't seems to be able to play psp for more than 45mins continuously, as my eyes quickly feels dry and ache. however this doesn't happen for my DS.

as for DS, there's more "classic" games like mario and more hands on fun games...
not sure what genre you prefer, but i'd say mario kart, mario bros, and maybe a couple of the FF tactics titles should keep you occupied throughout the trip.

hmm... well if I wanted to I could clear some music off of my phones mini-SD card and load some movies on if I get the DS.
I won't get the PSP because of it's movie and music support, so I think its just between games.

thanks for your help guys, +

what is battery life? Both in-game and in other stuff.

is there a GTA game for the DS? I'm pretty sure I've seen one for the PSP IIRC.
what about guitar hero? I've seen pictures of a guitar addon for the DS, is that released yet?

I believe the battery is better on the DS and I don't think there is a GTA game for DS but the Guitar Hero game is out now I think.

I love my PSP, I even hacked it with a custom firmware. Although I have to sell it, I need the money. If your interested, I'm selling mine with a bunch of games. PM me if your interested.

the GTA game was just anounced at e3 for the ds and won;t come out till christmas

i really enjoy my ds (currently playing through Zelda Phantom Hourglass) (waiting for Guitar hero: on tour to come in the mail (ebay))

if you go to any review website, and then go to their "top reviews/editor's picks/choice" you'll find that the DS has more AAA games.

the draw to the PSP is it's multi media capabilities, and the fewer blockbuster titles it has are stellar.

depends what you are looking for.
