Default Epic FPS argument

So Marin, Kamikaze127, vix, and I are in chat today talking about FPS and refresh rate.

We all know that DVI only supports up to 60 in refresh rate, meaning anything above 60 fps is pointless, correct? I have also seen people state that anything above 60 is not noticeable by the human eye.

Kamikaze then states that he can notice the difference, and that he needs the extra frames to react. This is his quote:

Quote:
Originally Posted by In chat when Kamikaze said he needs more than 60 fps
Kamikaze127: if there are more frames, even if i cant see them all, i see more, and i could see a better frame than some one else
He is stating that when he has 200fps and the other person has 60, he is seeing multiple different frames than the other person. While this does make some sense, it is questionable. The different frame would have so little time difference, could he possibly react faster to that "1 different frame" than someone else with less frames? It would be, after all, about a millisecond time difference. That is essentially what I said, and what Marin and vix agreed on.

For years now I have been convinced that 60fps is more than enough, with most people playing Crysis at 40fps and being perfectly happy. So who is correct here?

Thanks.

P.S. I don't mean to bash here, I really just want to find out who is correct.

P.S.S. Kamikaze is a good sport, and he allowed me to put the quote in my profile. If he's correct, I'll remove it.

Another part I don't understand is when Kamikaze states "I see different frames then the person with 60 fps" - Is that entirely true? Does your computer randomly take the frames, or do they come in order. If they come in order, you are seeing EXACTLY what the other person is seeing...or maybe not?

Your computer definitely doesn't randomize the frames, otherwise the game would be unplayable. So wouldn't that mean both players are getting the same frames at the same exact time?

60fps is un smooth anyways.
but yes if there are more frames, then i see diferent frames that some one with 60fps.

60 is fine for crysis now... but i do want more.
100+ is required for me to play source

I think it varies greatly depending on what engine is used.

For crysis, 30fps is playable to me, and UT3 engine games, I only notice slowdowns once you hit 40fps. But for source games, it just feels like it slows down really bad at anything below 70 fps, even though my refresh rate is at 60hz.

60fps is fine. Consoles run 60/30 fps and people don't ***** about them unless you're a nitpick or a hardcore gamer that thinks "**** 1000FPS OR BUST!1!!!"

I always thought that anything above 60fps (more specifically, refresh rate) was wasted...

Well I don't play consoles because controllers offer a shoddy gaming experience.

EDIT:
Shoddy is a bad word. I feel a lack of control over the game with a controller.

Especially since V Sync allows for a smoother image, which is 60 FPS or else you get tearing.

I can notice a difference from 20fps and 60fps, but 60 fps and 100fps? Nope, impossible.

Maybe he has that condition that guy from "Wanted" had, you know, 400beats per second, now that I think of it, he does look a lot like James McAvoy.

I usually can't stand playing games under 50 or 60 FPS, although it varies a little with each game. This is more important in multiplayer, obviously, because you often need to react quicker. But above 60FPS (my monitor's refresh rate) I personally can't tell a difference in any case.
