To start off it seems like I always have problems w/ FEAR in some way or another... However, that's not the subject of this thread.
Whenever I play FEAR Combat I start out w/ good framerates(50+), then they drop to decent(30-45), and then about half way through a round they drop to 25-27 fps(never lower). They do not correct themselves even after changing to the next map w/ restart engine with mapchange enabled. However, occasionally the system will freeze for a moment and the framerate will return to 30-45FPS for a short while then go back to 25-27FPS. I've tried 3 different drivers, SLI and non-SLI(looks like the Gigabyte card I had is bad anyway.), and changing the settings around in FEAR. I can have AA and everything on, turn everything down and whatnot and the framerate still sticks @ 25-27FPS. It's like something locks it there... I had a similar problem when I had a G5 gaming mouse, but switch back to my MX518 and it fixed it(on my C2D rig). Any ideas on how to fix this VERY annoying problem? THREAD REVIVAL!!! no fix for my framerate issue on my x2 yet... ![]() On my main rig after awhile FEAR combat will just freeze. No, "it's just becuase it's coded for 32-bit." Because, Pioneerisloud and froggyb both play on 64-bit vista on 64-bit dual-core opterons, and they don't have the slightest problem playing FEAR

its the Monolith engine with Vista x64, trust me.
i get the same thing, also happens with Condemned: Criminal Origins. same engine. like for 20 minutes your performance is killer, then it just degrades, then it absolutely dies. watch your ram usage when it starts to die heavily, my ram goes up to about 80% almost, 4gbs of it...yeah right. some kind of wrong going on there.

Guys THIS IS NOT A 64 BIT ISSUE. I have absolutely NO problems playing FEAR or FEAR Combat at all on ANY of my 64 bit rigs (4 in total), and my dad's rig plays it fine as well (XP x64). So this is DEFINITELY NOT a 64bit issue...especially since TWO of my rigs are near IDENTICAL to DesertRat's X2 rig...and they play it JUST fine (the only exception being GPU pretty much).

Also, if I remember correctly, you're running Seagate 7200.10 or 11's in BOTH of your rigs. Perhaps that's the issue at hand here? I remember there being a registry issue with those hard drives (with NForce4 chipsets) where data would SOMETIMES get lost / corrupt. And this issue I'm thinking of also creates TONS of error events in the event viewer.
So perhaps that may be the issue? That's the only thing I can think of that your two rigs have in common. So I'd suggest trying a spare HDD in one of your rigs...install Vista to it, get it up to date (and drivers)...and give that a try out?

27fps is still playable
__________________ r edit: i probably have no clue what im talking about but when something doesn't work.. upgrade to the newest drive during the framerate drops alt-tab to cpu-z or something to see if your processor didn't throttle down itself or whatever its called.. my laptop does that sometime for no reason
