Default New EA activation system coming

I just got this in my email box this morgen.

I don't know if this is meant to be public information yet, but EA is working on some web based software that allow you to re-authorise activations on new computers so you don't have to contact support

Quote:
Hi guys,

Please find attached additional information on the Warhead DRM and
Securom situation.

Thanks,

Eddy

Introduction
As you will be aware by now we released an F.A.Q.
<http://www.mycrysis.com/newsdetails.php?news=29380> explaining far
more details about the DRM that is used on Crysis Warhead. Following on
from the information we gave you last night we're also pleased to be
able to tell you that EA have sent us the following message to pass on
to you guys:

quote:

"EA is expediting development of a system that will allow consumers to
de-authorize machines and move authorizations to new machines. This
system will effectively give you direct control to manage your
authorizations between an unlimited number of different machines without
having to contact EA customer service."

Conclusion

Please keep in mind that we cannot commit to a specific time frame or
give you a date on when this will be available, but it is definitely
being worked on.

We hope that this will really keep you guys happy and that you can
understand that we have been listening to your concerns and are trying
to make as much progress as possible to help you all out as best we can.

Why not just remove the DRM alltogether?
it's already been proven that it dosent stop anything with Spore, which had over half a million pirated copies.
but I guess this is the best we'll get from EA

If this is true, then, yes it would be a farce, but at least its unlimited and I would buy a game that if it had the old drm (this one) i wouldn't.

What could be possibly fake?

I'd purchase from EA iff (if and only if) I can deactivate a machine from another machine by using their web interface. If I have hard drive failure, or my OS refuses to boot for some reason, I don't want to lose an activation.

"If this is true, then, yes..." implying that could well be a fake. That's what i interpreted.

Very true. To have to deactivate from the machine it is installed on may not be possible due to whatever issue. Heck, that is a primary reason the game would be re-installed.

Isn't this the same thing that happened with BioShock. At first it was limited and then they made it so that you could de-activate a machine online. I guess if they are going to do something, this is better than how it was before. Still sucks though.
