Default Rockband 2 gamble = win!

Ok, so I had a little bit of birthday money left over, and I headed over to futureshop yesterday. I went on Thursday looking for Warhead, but they didn't have it in, so I went looking for RB2, which wasn't in either, so I spent the rest of my time looking around, and was on the verge of deciding between WAR and NHL 09 when the store closed (relax, I got there 30 minutes before closing ).

Anyways yesterday when I went it and Warhead still wasn't in, but RB2 was in! So I ended up getting it, along with the $40 RB1 drumset.

Now, I've never played drums in my life, aside from like 20 seconds in grade 8 music class, but have played a lot of O2 Jam, which bears some similarity to RB drums. For example, I can FC this: (or could in my prime)

So I figured I could do it!

I started out on medium, and the only real troubles I had was the pedal, since I'm not used to using my feet in rhythm games (ddr is teh sux). I had trouble getting it comfortable. I went to the drum trainer, and while it certainly helped me with the notes and rhythm I was still helplessly lost with the pedal.

I still am, but I'm getting a little better. I can pass most songs up to tier 7 on hard, and I've passed Panic Attack and Peace Sells on medium, and I'm getting better all the time. Everything I've done so far (with the exception of panic attack) has been a sight read, so I'm looking forward to going back (lol?) and working out the kinks.

I really need to figure out how to muffle the drums though, because it gets pretty loud!

Don't see how playing O2JAM would help in any aspect apart from reaction time. I play beatmania IIDX and it really doesn't help me with Guitar Hero I can tell you..

Have you tried the Malaysian one? Should be o2jam.com.my, its always worked for me (haven't tried in a while though)

It won't with the guitar part, but the rhythm in some of the o2jam songs will translate well to the drums. All you're really doing is replacing 3 fingers with 1 drum stick and the space bar with the pedal. Like I said, it takes some getting used to, but occasionally I'll just fall into a rhythm in the middle of the song where I'm just hitting everything without even thinking. I'm just regressing into O2Jam mode.

Is there a hyperspeed mode in Rockband like there is in GH? That might come in handy (I couldn't play o2jam at under 3x speed)

Ooo that sucks, even though O2Jam became unplayable for me when I switched from CRT to LCD thats still a let down.

Oh well, I have RB2, GH3 and FoF to keep me occupied.

There isn't unfortunately. I change the hi speed according to the bpm of the song on IIDX.

Guitar Hero and Rock Band aren't really normal rhythm games.

I play better when I'm tired for some reason...

4 starred Lump on hard, 3 starred One Step Closer on hard (almost 4, I'm surprised I even passed it, the off beat kickers usually murder me!)
