Welcome to the Resident Evil 5 Prologue thread.

By Prologue, I mean basically everything leading up to RE5. All the way from the beginning of the series. I'm hyped for this sequel, and I want others to be just as equally including getting new fans into the game. Problem is, I feel that RE5 isn't going to be all too glamorous for people who don't know the story. I'm not saying RE5 will be a bad game, but new comers will be missing a massive chunk of the experience. That is the purpose of this thread, to help "cushion" that void. You can't completely fill the void, you must personally experience the previous RE games to get the whole package I believe. Though, this is better then nothing no?

I'm not going to go over EVERYTHING about RE, but basically what I feel will be necessary for you to understand the game.

Ok - we're going way back to the beginning. By this, I don't mean #1. I mean #0.



Albert Wesker and William Birkin are scientists employed by the Umbrella Corporation - a massive business that operated in computers, medical hardware/medicine, and weapons (kind of like Shinra from FFVII if you will). The 2 scientists were apart of the Bioweapon (BOW) development team. They were close friends, and essentially grew up together. They both essentially developed BOWs such as the Tyrant and Nemesis.


Previously, in the past, they both were ordered to kill their mentor by Ozwell Spencer - Doctor James Marcus. Marcus was the creator of the T-Virus by combining the "Mother Virus" (Progenitor Virus) with Leech DNA. After being killed by Wesker and Birkin, they continued research with the T-Virus and eventually came up with the G-Virus. A much more potent virus with drastic effects which we will cover in Resident Evil 2.


Ozwell Spencer is the president of Umbrella Corporation. In essence, he is the main villain of the Resident Evil story alongside Wesker. It is confirmed that he will be making his first ever physical appearance in a Resident Evil game in #5. It will also probably be his last.

Racoon City is a mid western city that is adjacent to the Arklay Mountains. The Arklay Mountains is where everything begins and essentially ends for Racoon City.

A man one day suddenly reappeared one day - vowing vengeance on Umbrella and Spencer - unleashing the T-Virus onto the Spencer Estate and the Training Facility infecting all of its scientists turning them into zombies.

Racoon City's Police Department (RPD) has a team known as the Special Tactics and Rescue Squad (S.T.A.R.S). This team has 2 teams - Bravo and Alpha Team.
The Bravo team is sent to investigate murders occurring in the Arklay Mountains. Their helicopter malfunctions and crashes on the way there. The team finds a military transport with corpses of the driver, guard, and some of the prisoners themselves but not one of Billy Coen.


Billy was sentenced to death according to one of the documents found in the wreck, supposedly killing 23 people.


The team splits up to search for him because they are afraid he may try to attack them, but Rebecca Chambers, rookie medic of the Bravo Team, comes across an eerie train just stopped in the middle of the woods. She enters, but only to find - you guessed it - zombies. The entire train zombified by leeches.

She encounters Billy unexpectedly. They decide in order to escape the nightmare - they must work together. The rain suddenly crashes into the Training Facility after several events we don't need to go into.



In the Training Facility, Marcus appeared to Wesker and Birkin. He vowed that he would kill Wesker and Birkin who hid in that very same location.

After surviving the horrors in the Training Facility, solving the puzzles and traps set by Marcus to protect his research, crossing settings of Resident Evil 2, surviving the onslaught of a Proto-Tyrant, getting through the Waste Disposal facility, Billy and Rebecca come face to face with Marcus who shares his past


When he was killed, the training facility was closed but then reopened by Wesker and Birkin where they continued their research. Little to their knowing, Marcus after being shot, was then surrounded by his leeches and they bonded with his DNA in order to recreate his thoughts and memory in almost a decade. They allowed him to heal and he came back so that he would "make the world burn".


Meanwhile, Wesker and Birkin plan to escape the facility. Wesker has to leave to go setup his next plan - to lure the S.T.A.R.S Alpha team into the Spencer Estate in order to collect battle data from the B.O.W.s. Birkin meanwhile will set off the self destruction mechanism in order to kill off Marcus.

At the end of RE0, Billy and Rebecca kill Marcus. Birkin and Wesker escape and the Training Facility is destroyed. Rebecca lets Billy run off, after getting to know Billy - she finds him not only attractive but pretty much innocent and wrongly accused of his crimes.


Wesker reaches the surface too, but Sergei Vladimir approaches him. He is the founder of Umbrella's Biohazard Countermeasure Service (UBCS). His DNA was one of the rarest that could make a Tyrant. Umbrella produced several clones of him, one of them becoming Nemesis. He had 2 bodyguards, Tyrants who he programmed to follow his orders.



In order to teach Wesker a "lesson" about who he is working for, he put one of his Tyrants out to fight Wesker. Wesker faught one of them off and escaped Sergei after the facility self destructed. Sergei knew exactly what Wesker's plans were, to escape with Umbrella's data.

It may be possible we will see Billy or Rebecca or even both in RE5. It's doubtful because there is no reason for them to be. But, there is always a possibility. Rebecca ends up going through the Arklay Woods and stumbling upon the Spencer Estate where a whole new world of evil awaits, along with the other team of S.T.A.R.S - Alpha team. Including Albert Wesker.

This is great. I'm glad you're doing this for people who know little or nothing about the story.

I completely forgot about most of RE0, but I loved that game.

Trying to get put together and RE1 but sadly Street Fighter 4 keeps taking up a huge ammount of my time. :-/
