I bought a new motherboard sapphire 790gx and 4gb ram and installed vista ultimate x64 recently and then I bought a 24" monitor. After I bought this I installed a few games; Grid, COD4 and tf2 and started to play them. Tf2 worked perfectly with everything full at 1920x1080. But when I tried to play Grid the problems began. With everything on full the game played beautifully, great framerates and no stuttering, for about 10 seconds, then the problems began.
__________________At random times the game would slow down, by this I don't mean the framerate drops but the actual pace of the game would grind to a halt for less than a second before it returned to normal speed. I've changed the resolution and settings to lowest but the problem still remains. With COD4 the problem is more stuttering when I run but the fps is fine. I have set all my hardware back to stock clocks and voltages to see if it helped but it didn't. I also have installed the latest drivers for everyting. Both of these games played fine before on my old hardware, cheap gigabyte mobo, 2gb generic ddr2 800 ram, 32bit vista ultimate. Both are unplayable because of this. I really cannot see what the problem is, as far as I can see this shouldn't be happening! Any help would be greatly appreciated because this is really ruining my gaming at the moment.

Hmm it's probably something else but I had a similar problem and it turns it out was my motherboard. I suggest trying what other people recommend, and if that doesn't work try a diff mobo.

Try reinstalling both games, check your temperatures to make sure they aren't too high, install all patches for the games and then report back here if it helped or not.

I've reinstalled both of the games, I patched them both as well but it still happens. My cpu never gets over 55c and my GPU never gets over 75c. I am starting to wonder if I have set up the crossfire switch card up right so I get the full speed through one PCI-E slot. Could this be the problem?
__________________EDIT: After further testing, I have come to the conclusion that the problems are due to my power supply lacking "oomph". I lowered all the voltages, underclocked and removed unneccesary accesories and tried to play the game, it worked perfectly. The new motherboard must draw more power than the old one. Although I am happy to have found the cause to the problem, it annoys me that I have to buy something else... Thanks for all your help on this one guys, +rep to all the helpful answers.
