Ok... so the title makes almost no sense... so it fits in right with how I feel right now... Got broadband for the first time (ever) and as such on-line gaming has always been something I've heard of and not done...

So I guess my question is... what's happening out there currently? I'm assuming when guys are playing their talking to each other, what software do I need (or do the games already have all that is needed installed)...

I've had TF2 since release basically and never played... kind of want to give it a go urgently...

So any assistance would be greatly appreciated

You could dive right into an MMO if you are into D&D or fantasy.

Aion would be the newest of them, great graphics, pretty smooth gameplay.
(Do not get sucked into World of Warcraft, it is simply old news and an old graphics engine.)

Most of them have built in voice capture programs. So you can talk in game. Now for the ones that don't then you would need Ventrilo or TeamSpeak.
There is no point in those for a game without built in voice unless you are in a team/clan/guild etc.

I don't play games so boring that the sound is the only reason to play, so I wouldn't know about that. Besides, I can reach over and hit the power button on my boombox at any time, and the music goes bye bye.
