So I added COD4 as a non steam game. Now what's irritating me is that it doesn't show it on my steam account, it also won't let me search servers, add a favorite server, and things like that. Anyone have any ideas on who to solve this?

It has to be purchased through Steam.

Just like skarm said, adding a non-steam game just places the game on your steam My Games list so you can launch it and use the overlay. There are only a few games that you can buy retail, activate on steam, and will then give you the full steam advantages.

the server browser is only for Valve games. Since CoD 4 is an IW game it won't work.
Different protocols use different methods of querey

This is also true. Even if you HAD bought it through steam, you must still use the in-game menus to do your server managing.

That sucks. I bought CS:S, Half Life 2 and Day of Defeat. They all worked with it.

Yes, those are on the list I posted, falling into the Valve category. Because Valve makes those games, they actually require Steam. If Valve allowed anyone to put games they bought elsewhere on Steam, it would fall on their servers for back-ups, updates, and server management without any of the money when you buy the game going to Valve. They would be providing all that for a loss.
