Because of what IW has done to gimp the MP in MW2, I got to thinking.


What if, instead of gimping it, they removed it entirely, chopped the game price to 25 smackers and said "Have fun with the single player".


Would the community be dividing by zero anywhere near as severely?

I'm sure some people would be a bit upset. After all, there's people that find that grenade-filled hell 'fun'. But would the entire PC gaming community be up in arms over it? Or would it have gone relatively unnoticed, leaving everyone to fume over L4D2 or something?

I think that MW2 has been responsible for a majority of my friends buying L4D2.

What's funny is that L4D2 has a few of the same features that has the MW2 fans so pissed. Matchmaking, no direct moderation(Has to have a voteban, all a griefer needs to do is bring in a buddy and they are untouchable in a campaign. 2 v 2 votes fail.)...Yeah, they have dedi servers, but that's about it. Noone seems to care, tho...

Well, L4D2 still gives you the option of your own server. It is also a small scale game (and built to be so) where matchmaking is either okay for a quick public game (since 4 or 8 players is the 100% optimal) whereas in games like MW2, you don't need a full house to experience the game fully.

The close friend/team based setup (4 players to a team) also lends itself to either matchmaking or a predetermined match with a 'best ping' server.

Also, it's not P2P - it's dedicated servers. At least you CAN votekick.

And as said above, you can have a dedicated server - I had one for a while with L4D and it was great. You can still do pubs (if you host, you can decide what server to connect to) and I could kick ******* without worrying about votes. I was willing to put down some cash for that luxury.


L4D is also not your typical FPS (CSS, TF2, BF2, COD, etc). Comparing its multiplayer system is almost like comparing different genres.

Indeed. If it was a purely single player game there wouldn't be a stink because it doesn't try and do multiplayer. The way it is now is a half assed, stupid multiplayer system.

Honestly, if MW2 was $25 and came with no Multiplayer, I would buy that. I say "came with no Multiplayer" not because I don't want it on my computer, but because there's no way they would price it at $25 if it had single and multiplayer.
