Thats why I choose designs rather than characters. People who don't get the reference just think it looks cool. People who do get the reference think they are epic. Other than that, I got them because I like them, not to make sure most people get the reference...;P
Thought rule number one is definitely an important rule unless they are your kid or something. Getting a tattoo of your kids' names is perfectly acceptable in my opinion.

When you get a tattoo, you don't get it for others. You get it for yourself. Who gives a $#!+ if others get the reference. Do you know why I have a pig and a rooster on the tops of my feet? Doesn't matter, it's significant to me. If it means something to you and you like it, go ahead and get it.

+1 for you man. I have never watched an episode of LA Ink yet where somebody came in and said, "I am gonna get this tat because it's significant to *someone else besides me*"
These are NOT mine, my ink is all black & grey and much more personal to me.
