Originally I had intended to use steel hose clamps, but after a while I realised that they were not going to do the job as they either failed to screw down tight onto the barbs or loosen off to get them on there in the first place (Ok so I tried to save some money by getting the cheapo ones from the hardware store).

Cut is the simplest, but if you have a small jewelers screwdriver, you might be able to sneak it in there and pry up the notch. I suggest cutting though..haha

Wire cutters right at the zip part, you only need to cut half of it off and you should be able to pull them off with ease and with out damaging your hose.

Zip ties are your friend. I use 3 per barb and remove them with scissors.

Yup, zipties work the best, Get them really tight and you should be peachy. Also use some side cutters, or dikes, and snip off the zip part ( the little square box thing). Or you can what I am doing and don't really recommend doing, is running just just the hose, no zip ties, no clamps nothing lol. Not recommended.

I run 7/16" on 1/2" too but I wouldn't dare run it for anything longer than a leak test without a clamp of some kind. They don't cost much so you really should get something on there.
