Default 8800gtx with modded Apogee 30c drop in load temps

I said about putting an apogee on my 8800gtx, I was trying to enjoy my system first, but as my luck would have it, I killed my p5w dh when I was impatiently testing my mch voltage on the floor instead of a bench, and I crossed the test spot with the next lead on the small component. It made enough of a spark that I could hear it, and no longer is my p5w dh. I'm gonna rma it, but until then, or I get a new board, no benchmarks, as my 3700+ sandy with the 8800gtx at stock clocks got under 7000 in 3dmark06. So anyone wondering if that kind of chip will bottleneck, heck yes, it will.

First, you need heatsinks for your voltage regulators. I made my own.

I used my cut wheel for the steel faceplate, those dremel bits are too fragile.

A centerpunch is almost essential when drilling holes in this kind of material.

I used a universal chipset cooler for the second chip on the pcb.

The ramsinks came from two different sets of universal vga ramsinks.

Ahh, no leaks.

A little UV scenery, and a fan...

The temps were cut by 30c, a volt mod would probably help quite a bit. I'm to scurred right now, the smr for the mod on my board is absolutely tiny.

All in all that was fun.

Nice job

why not use a 1u server apogee so it wont take up all you PCI slots

IMO those ramsinks dont look like they are up to the job

on my 7950gt I have swiftech ramsinks and those things burn my fingers if I touch them on stock speeds

So how far will it let you overclock?

Edit: Doh! Not used to looking at ATITool's multiple speed levels.

I wouldn't worry about the voltmod unless you're dead set on RMAing the card. Those speeds should hold you out for quite a while!

The mcw60 parts I found are actually interchangeable, but the mcw60 has a raised surface to meet a small gpu core. The apogee has a completely flat one. For some reason it seems impossible to take apart the top of my mcw60-t. I can't figure out how they got it together
