I think they do, in the instructions that come with the block, it says that it "might" (WILL!!) get clogged after some time and that it routinely needs to be opened up and cleaned (see martin's pic, lol).... They expect it to happen, and expect us to clean it out!

So by cutting it out when it's new, we can save ourselves the trouble.

hopefully this doesn't lead to inadequate o-rings that would actually leak

...eh, it wasn't so bad cleaning it out, takes a few minutes, and you only have to do it once
