I have some new watercooling gear I want to incorporate in some of my builds so I thought I would go ahead and give it a hard run with a new mobo I just got--a P5K. With options to 1.7 Vcore I think I will be able to generate enough heat to do a fair test.

Having been a Storm/D-5 fan for a while now I was directed to the DB-1 pump by Ira-K. The Pump is very high quality in construction--ceramic impeller with the same life expectancy as the beloved MCP655/D-5 and a brushless motor. Compact and heavy this is no aquarium pump--in fact it comes wired with a three pin to plug right in the cpu pin out on the mobo.

Last night I built a techstation around a Lian Li motherboard tray and mounted a Thermochill PA160 to it with a single 72CFM SilenX fan on the shroud. As this is the exact fan/shroud/rad I am using in myy NSK4400 LCC mods I want to prove to myself and anyone interested what this awesome combo can do. Virtually silent at 5 feet the SilenX is a grewat choice for those of us burnt out on whiney high speed fans that leave the ears ringing .

Considering I often have as many as 6 or 7 rigs running at a time fan noise is a real concern for me-- I actually have ringing in my ears after long sessions in the media room.

So with that as the foundation I then plumbed the loop with no elbows or other unnecessary restrictions--using an Alphacool Bullseye (Rev 2) compensating resevoir to ensure the DB-1 would always run wet. To ease the fill and bleed I fitted three highflow g4 barbs to the Bullseye with one going to a length of tube past the mobo area fitted with a Danger Den FilPort--but for safety's sake I went ahead and used PrimoChill nonconductive coolant (UV Red) to which I added about 1/4 oz. of D-Tek Purple UV dye.

When I first pugged the DB-1 into a jumpered PSU I was not sure it was even on. I had to press my hand on the pump and feel the vibration--I mounted it loosely to the tray on top of a piece of foam tape with a cable tie so that it could pivot a little bit to ease the bend of the tubing run.

The FuZion is a breeze to install and comes with hardware for virtually every CPU socket. The only complaint is the barbs are very close and using thickwall tubing makes clamps tricky to slip over the barbs. I use stainless steel pinch ear clamps as suggested by Ira K--these are absolutely the best may to mount tubing to barbs--they provide a nearly permanent seal against leakage and look very pro.

I used a fair amount of ClearFlex tubing--both to simulate an actual installation in a case and to give the little DB-1 some work. No sense is making some impractically perfect loop with super low restriction only to find that in a case with several feet of tubing that it is too weak.

I just now have loaded into XP desktop and can start running some stress tests to heat up the loop.

Initially the temp in BIOS was an outstanding 28C (mobo 33C) which shortly thereafter ran to 30C and stayed there after loading XP when I checked immediately.

So with 30C at Idle that's some headroom--considering the ambient is about 26C that's not bad.

I just ordered my Fuzion today, can't wait to try it out. I'm already idling at 35C (1.475vcore, 3.6ghz) and only load to 50C. I'm hoping the Fuzion will knock that down a C or two.

Sounds like the little thing is as quiet as they claimed look forward to hearing more of your results..Not a bad idle on a fresh loop....It might be the perfect little economical pump for a cpu only loop...

Now to find a suitable Rad that will match theThermochill at half the price

A BIP 240 would be good for most CPU only loops with some decent cfm fans on it....

These are really pretty quiet and still have good pressure..

Hmmm well I will trust your judgement and purchase one to bench against this set up...that should prove whether or not it can hang at lower CFM. I cannot stand fan noise anymore (getting old man) and need a quiet LC solution.

Well the BIP is so thin a 120x25mm should work OK....Hey they are decent and inexpensive...Might be worth giving it a shot on a cpu only loop....

Apollo I use the 108 Sunon and the 115 Panaflo on my rad...I'll link a couple more that aren't that loud but would still be good on a GTX...The bigger ones don't really seem loud to me they are a low pitched sound kind of a white noise after you get used to them...
