The MCP655 vario ( Not the MCP655-B ) has the ability to adjust the speed to lower flow as well as dBa. By default, the MCP655 kicks out about 33-34 dBa while the MCP655-B is around the 24-25 dBa range. The fixed rpm "B" model apparently runs at setting 4 of the vario model that has a max setting of 5. This accounts for the lower dBa level.

Aquarium pumps usually tend to be more of a High Flow/Low Pressure Head design which doesn't work very efficiently on water cooling systems, but it looks like some of those have ok head.

For Example the Hydor L20 has much more maximum flow rate (Note this is at 0 pressure) than say a stock DDC2,
Hydor L20=3.0GPM (Max Flow Rate, Pressure = 0)
DDC2 (Stock) = 2.25GPM(Max Flow Rate, Pressure=0)

but the net flow rate result on an assumed setup is actually:

Hydor L20=1.3GPM (Actual System Flow Rate)
DDC2 (Stock) = 1.7GPM (Actual System Flow Rate)

So in water cooling it's more important to have a higher head pump, and if you want to go a step further, it's better to have one that has a nice convex curve that bulges in the 1-2 GPM range.

Heat dump could be another issue. While that only helps in an aquarium environment, even a small amount of heat dump like 20W can make a stronger pump do worse than a weaker pump with less heat dump.

If you have a 120x3 rad get a Swiftech Radbox and hang it off the back. Otherwise your gonna need to put it inside the case or fit it into back 120mm slots or externally mount on top OR make a stand. Thats alot of options lol, I have my 480GTX on a stand I made externally mounted

You sure you want an aquarium pump even when specialized watercooling pumps are much better?

you can use a few jung winshield washer pumps running off your 5v rail. i find running them all the time on 12v tends to burn them out overnight.

Lol now that's ghetto, probably would work well with 1/8" ID tubings if that exists.

I would advise spending a little more for a higher head pump. Don't get me wrong, people use the aquarium pumps often and do just fine, but for better cooling ability I would (and did) go with a more expensive pump.
