oc in progress, just before i left work today.

got a few things up my sleeve to really finish off this build.
im going to take out those blue LED, i might put in a catho
going to cut a face plate and mount the LCD display there.
adding fan controller. i want to make one. it looks like the
fan has the ability to just add a pot in the circuit and that
would do it, not sure tho. the cable it self is a 3-pin to
4-pin molex, i was hoping that it would be simple to do, but
i dont want to redo the cables. so if theres an easy way to
control voltage that would be nice. i was thinking just put
in a relay and have it go between 5v and 12v, for high and
low. just a simple switch. to me its not loud at all. very nice
but i want to see if performance is hindered. i havent had
time to test the system out the way i want to. but i will!
do some load testing with the pump and fan so i can get
optimal results instead of putting everything at max lol which
is always fun.

i have an old enermax fan controller, but it uses a 3-pin cable.

if there isnt a nice way to do it, im just going to go with the
relay idea.

thanks for all the comments, im really satisfied

edit:

does a pot really have enough resistants to change the voltage?
i found this on sidewinder. very interesting, i hope someone can
help me out

I am really curios to see what the maximum stable mem speed is..not for your RAM, but for the NB. From my testing experience, the 965 chipsets typically max out around ~1240mhz.

I cannot run these Ballistix to their max speed, as I am limited by the mobo. So I settled on 1200mhz @ 2.2v 5-5-5-15.

..If you get much higher than 1240mhz with your RAM speed, could you please post some info on your settings?

the maximus maxed those sticks out at 1380Mhz with 2.64v. i dont know how far e-98 can get them though, using 4 sticks...

so the Mem controller was stable at this speed?

I am concerned with the NB speed, when the RAM speed is >1240mhz. I understand that the P35/X38 do not have a latency reset on the NB straps...so only the CPU multi and FSB would affect the speed/performance of the Memory Controller.

If the FSB is 400mhz, but CPU multi is still stock, then the NB is running 1:1 with the FSB...a 1200+mhz RAM speed, would not impress me.

However, if the FSB is 400mhz, but the CPU multi has been lowered, say..3 times, from its stock value...then the NB would be running ~135mhz > FSB speed...or 535mhz, for an effective speed of 2.14ghz.

If the memory controller can indeed handle running 1240+mhz RAM at this speed...I would cry with envy.

Hope that clarifies things a little...sorry for the rant.

ill be testing it some more when i get back to work on Wednesdays
well what the max FSB i dont have much time testing but ill do as much
as i can, if no ill just take it home with me

ram is pretty stable, i think im going to make a few temp probs, the mobo
has the ability to add temp probes and read with asus probe software.
i felt the ram after about 6 hours of uses and its just warm. i dont know
how damaging it is lol. well see, ill cut the dram v to 2.3 and see how high
i can get it. if that doesnt work ill push the v back up and see how high i
can hit it. system is super stable, 100% load for alittle over 30 mins rendering
very fun. i have a feeling ill be riding 3.6-3.8 stable

just as reference

does anyone know whats dangerous temps for NB, SB, RAM, just generally.

i know its just a workstation but lol OC just takes over your life

..the RAM is really the only thing I would worry about, unless stability is an issue for you. Typically NB's can handle somewhere up to 70c...SB's Im not sure..but I think the mobo will become unstable and crash long before the NB ever hits those kind of temps.

I use a thermal probe, and stick it between the HS's and the IC's on the RAM, at the far most corner, away from the cooling fan on them. I like to keep my temps around 34-46c on extended loads..I have hit 52c on some IC's before...they did not last 2 weeks.

great info dude +rep thanks

temp probs are kinda expensive, 5 dollars! outrageous!..
you guys see them anywhere cheaper then 5 bucks?
+ shipping it comes out to be 7 bucks! not cool. i think
im going to still the probes off an enermax fan/temp read
controller i have. and throw in some 2 pins, but ill have to
buy those 2 pins, saves me a few dollars worth it?

lol

another quick Q dont know if anyone ever test this

whats more effective a push through a rad or a pull
through a rad?

trying to get the most optimal setup for another build.
i wish it was my system... i think im going to just steal it.
my boss would never know lol.
