Project: "Home Wrecker" was originally called "Table Wrecker" because
of how heavy the system would be when the project would be over
but in some recent family events, yada yada, i dub thee "Home Wrecker"

Project Overview:

This was originally my Render Slave which is a 680i quad xtreme w/ 2
8800gtx in sli. all-in-all it was great fun, but i was unable to stabilize
the motherboard. the original build cost 3200 for a unstable, unreliable
could of been a lot better system. there were chooses that i regret but
its ok, the build was sponsored by MSI thus the use of the P6N and the
2 8800gtx's. everything was very pricey back then and the 680i chipset
was very unstable. anyways this will be the third and final revision.

Render Slave:

QX6850 @ 3.33 1333x10
4x 1GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 PC2 6400 800
MSI P6N Diamond (1.3 beta 2)
2x MSI 8800GTX
2x WD 320gb Caviler
ASUS 16x DVDR
SilverStone ST7SF 750w Strider
TT Armor LCS

terribly unstable, temps were actually ok even at load, but i really hated
the quality of the product. the p6n actually never offically supported the
QX6850 so i had MSI write me a bios which is now the official bios (1.3)
i had been running 1.3 beta 2 since august 07 and the board felt like it
was degrading...

__________________________________________________ __________

Render Slave: Rev1 (added cooling hardware)

QX6850 @ 3.20 1300x10
4x 1GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 PC2 6400 800
MSI P6N Diamond (1.3 beta 2)
2x MSI 8800GTX
2x WD 320gb Caviler
ASUS 16x DVDR
SilverStone ST7SF 750w Strider
TT Armor LCS
Swiftech Apogee GTX
4x SilverStone 121 fans

well system was again terribly unstable, tried some new cooling hardware
out to see if it would yield any difference, it did help a little bit but again
not worth the trouble. just ran the system as stable as possible

__________________________________________________ __________

Render Slave: Rev2 (on air)

QX6850 @ 2.9 1066x11
4x 1GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 PC2 6400 800
MSI P6N Diamond (offical 1.3 bios)
2x MSI 8800GTX
2x WD 320gb Caviler Raid O
Samsung 20x DVDR
SilverStone ST7SF 750w Strider
TT Armor LCS
4x SilverStone FM121 fans
SilverStone NT06 air cooler

so i scraped the cooling system, sold as much of it as i could and put in
my old cooler from my p4 and it had the same idle temps but a better
load temp.. can you believe that. horrible, anyways the board was really
degrading on me. the system had become so horribly unstable that i had
to down clock my system. over days and days of testing, i stabilized at
1300 Rated FBS, a couple weeks later again horribly unstable, tested again
and finally stabilized at 1066. then i thought, hum wonder if the official
bios would help, so i flashed, clocked everything to standard speed and
after window loads about 2 mins on OCN i get a reboot or a power down..

and that was the last straw, i have 3 P6N Diamonds, 1 which was DOA
one in my system and one under a bunch of close. needed to test my
hardware so i had tested them on another P6N and had no difference
the motherboard was obviously garbage.

thus the project "Home Wrecker" was made, endless nights, tired
eyes, cuts, blood, you name it.

__________________________________________________ __________

ive already got the 360GTX and got the D5 today i also have all the fans.

heres a pic of Rev2

i got big plans for Rev3

stay tuned

thanks for watching

you want stable...X38 or P35 FTW!!!

You want bleeding edge tech, 780i or 790i (DDR3). Bonus of the 780i or 790i is the SLI, but I had a terrible time with long term high FSB stability on my 680i boards and the 780i uses the same exact NB/SB chips with an added N200 PCIe2.0 bridge, I can't imagine that it would be much different CPU/FSB/Mem overclocking than the 680i boards. There is another version of the 780i called the 780i FTW (I'm not joking) and supposedly (I don't think it's out, and all the info is just propaganda) it will be much more stable due to the use of solid state capacitors, it also has an integrated watercooling block already, but I haven't seen any shots of it yet, despite being announced by EVGA.

I switched over from the EVGA 680i NF68 board to the P5K Deluxe and was amazed by the stability of the chipset, I do lament the lack of SLI capability however.

Free is always worth at least a try, and as far as the rest of the 780i boards, I would recommend the EVGA 780i FTW when available, I've always heard conflicting reports on the strikers, people either love 'em, or hate 'em. I wouldn't recommend the ASUS 780i boards in general I guess, they haven't been as adherent to the reference boards as they should have been in the past, and in this case, they didn't even claim 45nm quad compatibility until just recently. I totally understand the SLI quandry, good news is that apparently the 780i boards show much better results with SLI because of the added N200 chip being used for Vid card core crosstalk without needing the CPU.

Should be sooner rather than later as I'm sure they want to launch this before the 790i launches in about a month, and from the looks of it (some pictures here the thing is a beast, with an integrated NB/SB watercooling, the picture shows the optional air.
