I mean, you pay hundreds for watercooling components...why go cheap on a $20 bottle of liquid specifically made for this one purpose? On the other hand....how well does the highlighter dye work solo? I have heard of ppl using an automotive anti-freeze mix, and they swear by it.
On the box it says contains: sodium chloride(salt), and optical brighteners. I don't think salt will corrode anything :P. People have been using the mixture for years. Way before all these kits came out. It shouldn't hurt anything in your loop.

Optical Brighteners From Wikipedia.org
Quote:
Optical brighteners, optical brightening agents, fluorescent brightening agents or fluorescent whitening agents (FWAs) are dyes that absorb light in the ultraviolet and violet region of the electromagnetic spectrum, and re-emit light in the blue region. These additives are often used to enhance the appearance of color of fabric and paper, causing a "whitening" effect, making materials look less yellow and by increasing the overall amount of light reflected to the eye.

The most common class of chemicals with this property are the stilbenes and fluorescent dyes such as umbelliferone, which absorb energy in the UV portion of the spectrum and re-emit it in the blue portion of the visible spectrum. A white surface treated with an optical brightener emits more visible light than shines on it, making it appear brighter. The blue light emitted by the brightener hides yellow and brown tones, making treated materials appear whiter.

Brighteners are commonly added to laundry detergents to replace whitening agents removed during washing and to make the clothes appear cleaner. Optical brighteners have replaced bluing which was formerly used to produce the same effect. Some brighteners can cause allergic reactions when in contact with skin.

Brighteners are used in many papers, especially high brightness papers, resulting in their strongly fluorescent appearance under UV illumination. Paper used for banknotes does not contain optical brighteners, so a common method for detecting forged notes is to check for fluorescence.

Care should be taken that military uniforms such as the Army Combat Uniform, Marine Corps Combat Utility Uniform, and the Airman Battle Uniform are not washed with optical brighteners, as these will make them more visible through Night Vision Devices or under low light conditions.

I've just been using a mix of highlighter, antifreeze, and distilled water and it's really UV reactive. No stained tubes either. I only use the antifreeze because I have an aluminum block in my loop. IMO I'd just skip the rits stuff and use highlighter + water.

The only highlighter colors that are uv reactive enough to be used alone, are yellow and orange all the others i reccomend that you add RIT whitener.

I cant remember whose topic it was or where the pictures are now, but someone else did that. After so many months of running it, after they would shut it down, they got lots of bubbles in the solution and it had to be flushed out later. Just forwarning.

You get bubbles at the start when your bleeding it but they go away after like 20 mins, it happens with any additive. Unless your using a t-line, then you want to bleed it first before adding the coolant.

What's the odds my daughter had a old bottle filled with green fluid last night and she put it next to my PC and it glowed, I asked her if that was some of my PC coolant and she said it was from a highlighter, LOL

No, not at the beginning, after a while though. I remember that it happened after the user ran their setup for a while.

Was this the post on xs? As I know a person who mixed a bunch of stuff in with it like windex and stuff and had it bubble up after a few months, but after that he ran pure rit and highlighter juice from there on out and had no troubles at all.
