Default MCW30 Chipset Waterblock, why?

Thinking about buying MCW30

What am I able to increase by doing this? IDK if I need or not, but maybe it will help me get to 4.0...

Thanks

You theoretically might be able to run at a higher stable chipset voltage and fsb if that is limiting your overclock. Do you already have a fan on your northbridge? If you do and the northbridge does not get all that hot, then the chipset waterblock is probably not worth it. If your northbridge seems to be really heating up and my 680i one does then it might be worth it.

Thanks, rep for you both.

Is it hard to get stock HS off? It has little white plastic pins.

I don't want to have to take out MOBO...

Im pretty certain that you WILL have to remove the board in order to remove the stock heatsink and fit an MCW30 block.

Before jumping the gun and buying a block I would just remove the original heatsink, clean off the old TIM and reapply some MX2, might not need a block after that!

Check to see if the MCW30 will ship with a hard mount option. It replaces the spring retention system which allows the stress from the tubing to "rock" the water block and therefore cause improper seating.

It would allow you to push greater than 1.55 nb volts. A good fan on your nb hs would allow you to do the same thing.
