Default pump making little ticking sounds?

Hey guys... I have a Swiftech MCP355 (Laing DDC3.2) w/ Petra's top and alla sudden i hear there very soft ticking noises. They're random, meaning they dont tick within a certain time interval and it's very short. Anyone with experience with pumps know what's the problem? Thanks.

Thats weird, I've run a lot of DDC w/Petra tops and haven't heard anything like that...Are you sure its the pump itself and not the vibration of the pump on the case or something? The only thing in them that moves in them is the impeller and it sits on a little ceramic bead...So if it is the pump itself ticking it would be the impeller hitting the top or the impeller socket that sits on the ceramic bead making the noise...I always run about an ounce of glycerin to 40 ounces so distilled with those pumps to keep the impeller lubed....

Yeap, i'm sure that it's teh pump, I held it very closed to my ears and heard it pretty well. You suggest I open it up and see what's wrong?

Aye, take it apart bud - only 4 screws!

Could be some debris in there underneath the impeller (from the Rad or something) but it more than likely sounds like the impeller catching the underneath side of the Petras top..

Has your DDC got the Blue impeller ? If so check your Petras top is the DDCT-01s (S revision becuase the standard DDCT-01 had problems with the blue impeller DDCs and it was changed.) So if you have the STD DDCT-01 and Blue impeller you have problems.. PM me if this is the case and i'll tell you how to fix it

Yeah you could just to see what its doing in there...Pull out the impeller and look at the little bead that it rides on and see if it looks OK, just pull out on it all that holds it in is the magnetized coil, it should be nice and round and white...Looks at the little cradle on the impeller that rides on the bead and see if its OK..Look at the impeller top to and see if its chipped or something to...Don't loose your o-ring when you pull it apart...If its screwed up you should just RMA it...There isn't really anything in it that can be easily fixed with-out spare parts....

EDIT: Yeah Rob that could be it to..If you have a ringed inlet on the inside of your top you can just dremel it off so it will work the blue impeller pump...

Aye we had quite a few with that problem early on last year when we first brought the Petras Tech Top over to the UK, we had so many RMA pumps it was dreadful, the top would just burn them out

Just dremel the lip off or get a sharp stanley blade and shave the lip of the bobs your uncle

Well ... deal with a little hassle now, or deal with a dead pump later. I'd go for the little hassle now.

Could also just be tiny air bubbles passing through the pump... how long has the loop been running?
