Default Artic Silver-What a load of crock !

Following reccomendations on this forum I bought myself some AR5 thermal compound for my water setup and Q6600.
I applied it the first time and got tremendous temps.I wrote all about my incredible 35 deg C temps at stress.
Then suddenly my temps went up and I could not for the life of me figure out what had happened.
I reseated the block more than 12 to 15 times with AR5 and never got my temps back.
Tonight I decide to bring a local South African MIL SPEC thermal compound home .We use this on military helicopters ..(I can say that..:-)..)
I cleaned all the AR5 off and put some of my good ol` white military stuff on a fire up...
My original GOOD temps are all back !! Ambient temps are 30 odd C and she `s idling at 33 deg C...Stress for a hour prime95 and I dont see much over 37/38 deg C !

Im back in business ! Artic Silver ?? Not for me thanks...

The thing is, we all don't have access to military grade stuff like that. I could go to a local Air Force base here and ask for some, but I'd have a hard time justifying to the quartermaster I needed thermal compound for my home PC. :P

Uhm..ja..The gist here is that I started off with AR5 and it got progressively worse..So much for "curing" and temps dropping even more after a week or two.

When I removed the block a while ago the AR5 came away as it were a "skin".Not realy sticking to either surface that well..but still the consistency of snot..pardon the expression.

Yea,Mill spec is probably overkill..but thats just me..overkill Kriss..

Try it a few more times to remove variance. It might have just been a fluke.

Actually, now that you've mentioned it to me, I WILL be going to the base this weekend and asking around the hangar if I could grab some spare.
