Default Might be a n00by question

Im new to the whole watercooling thing and i had a thought. Is logical to take the line from the res and split it into two and take one to the cpu and the other to the gpu. Does anyone do this?

Think of it as kind of adding a second loop to a one loop system.

You would have to have 2 Y's, and your flow would probably mess up.

Just keep one, continuous line through your computer.

Unless you get a pump with a flow rate that is high enough, I would think this would hurt both of your temperatures because there would be less water to carry away the heat versus if you had the CPU and GPU in series in a loop. You could always try them both, but most people just do separate loops if they don't want to combine parts on a single loop.

Unless you have a way to measure and restrict flow to either water-block ... no ... not a good idea.

Since you are running the split flow to two different water-blocks, the waterblock with more restrictions will be starved for flow since the coolant will take the path of least resistance ... aka the more free-flowing block.

As stated above, straight through from one to the next is the better option in this situation.
Two seperate loops would be the best scenario but it's not always necessary.

That would be a bad idea. One side of that loop would get most of the flow due to one reason or another there would be more restriction on one side. It will flow on the direction of least resistance. It is better to dasiy chain them or setup 2 loops. CPU always before GPU in one loop.

I would like to point out that although the water will take the path of least resistance, not all of it will. You can calculate pretty accurately how much flow will go in each path if you know the head loss in each.

I'd just keep it all in series...The most restrictive block in a loop is usually the CPU and thats the one you want to get the most flow...That and th eGPU isn't nearly as heat sensitive as the CPU...I run my loop res-pump-rad-cpu-any other blocks, that get the coolest water possible to the CPU first....
