Default Best of the best!!!

I've been searching through these forums religiously over the past few days and I have noticed that many WC enthusiasts with the same CPU, GPU, etc... use a variety of different components to cool their systems. So, I was wondering.....

Without getting into anything complicated (i.e. phase change...), what are the best WC components on the market? Price/Value doesn't matter, just the blocks, rads, pumps, etc... that are, bottom-line, the best of the best.

The term "best" can mean different things to different people. From a strickly performance basis, this Guide does a great job of capturing the top performers and ranking them:

http://forums.extremeoverclocking.co...d.php?t=282232

But keep in mind, the difference between the best performer and one of the others may be only a degree or three.

Man thats a big old pile of common WC'ing knowledge....The only thing I can see in it with a quick look over is saying to use as many fittings and tubing as you want to...You want to use as little tubing and as few fittings as possible to keep flow quality high...Any restriction that isn't directly involved with picking up heat or dissipating heat is head/energy/velocity lost....You don't want your flow to turn laminar on you, thats when the heat pulls back into the center of the flow, you want it mixed evenly through-out the flow for best results...

You referring to the link I posted?

If so, the very first para reads "This is a guide of water cooling parts and related information that will help members choose water cooling parts for their custom water cooling builds. FYI, this is not a water cooling FAQs or HOW-TO guide, but has some relevant information that might help setup your loop."

There's nothing wrong with it Tony, I'm just saying thats about the only thing I saw that I didn't agree with, with a quick look over, we'll that and Koolance and some of that.....Its pretty through, its just common WC'ing knowledge that he compiled, nothing wrong with that, I'm sure it would be very helpful for new guys...

The best is going to depend on what you are planning to do. Some blocks are better for one processor type than others, but it's also dependant on if you are cooling just one block or multiple blocks in the same loop.

The radiator also depends on the type of fan you want to run.

I would suggest that you explain something like this:

CPU cooling only, or CPU + GPU, or ?
What processor, C2D or Quad?
Heavy overclock?
How many loops, one, two, three?
Fans...silence or noise is not a problem, or in-between?
Budget?

Blocks - There are lots of good ones, most of them are only a few degrees apart. Some are better for single loops and stronger pumps because of their high restriction, others are better for multiple block loops due to their lower restriction. Also some have nozzle kits that allow flexibility in both areas, and some cool a larger area better for processors like quad cores than others.

Pumps - You need "enough", too much pump can mean worse temperatures as heat dump from the pump will outweigh the benefits of added flow rates.

D5s and DDCs with tops are good general purpose.

Radiators you want more open fin types for really quiet low speed fans and more dense types for high speed/high pressure fans. Multiple radiators in series will also do just fine in most cases.

Sure, there's no new revelations inside. It's just a good, single source compilation of what the writer considers the "best" component in each category. It does a good job of gathering some of the common knowledge into one place.

I agree with Martin, that "best" is situational.
