I noticed that too. I wonder why he used to much? He knows better lol. Also for the record the swirls and stuff on the block do not effect the surface. It is still ultra smooth. Here's an explanation from Jerm. The XS guys used it as a reason to flame Danger Den since making fanboy fights is what they are best at.

"There is a special end mill we use that creates a very smooth finish...looks like ridges or holographic...but very smooth! The 3870X2 was the first to have it. The Ione has a slightly different finish because we were able to use different tooling for it.

Every block we design requires a bit different tooling. Like with the 3870X2 and now the Nvidia 9800GX2 the mounting posts are designed such that they make contact to the PCB once fully tightened. This prevents most of the Video Card "bow" with installation. Because of the these posts and heights we had to use a new type of cutter. It's all better for the end user because of the ease of installation now... "
