Pump position, where and why???

I've got a 5 1/4 bay Dual Res so I'm going to put that sucker in the first bay at the top since this should be better for bleeding (not relivent), but I've seen alot of people's rigs with there pumps at the bottom. Now my question is, is it better for the pump to be at the top or the bottom. I have the Swiftech MCP655 pump so I know it can handle flow, but I was wondering if flow would be better at the top rather than the bottom since the coolent will be falling as the pump pushes the coolent down. Also I will have my Radiator mounted outside on top of the case in a custom shroud, so the tubing will go from the Rad into the case from the top.

seems to me that keeping the change in elevation down to a minimum will take some of the burden off of the pump (going against gravity) letting it use that saved effort to keep the flow as fast as possible. that's all me speculating though, i have no proof of real world results.

As long as it's below the rad the fluid runs to it to prime it, you should be fine.

The MCP655 is a beast, and can handle anything. My elevation change is going to be something like 18 inches, and I'm not worried.

With a bay res I like to keep my pump on the bottom under it, that will help to keep from having dry starts...Leave you pump loose and shake it a few times when your filling up your loop to get all the air out of it...Throw a thick phone book under the front of your case to keep water over the barbs in the back and you will bleed fast....Air will only travel to the highest point in your loop when the pump is off, its moving to fast when its on to release much air, but when you first start up you will want to flip the power on and off several times till the pump has picked up, that lets the air work out a lot faster....
Here are some pic's of how I set up with a bay res in a case... This first one I have a quick dis-connect on the rad so i can easily take it off to shake when I'm bleeding...The tubing is over-long on it but I had it that way for a reason.. ![]() ![]() ![]()
