Default Crazy temps! Help please!

Ok, I just installed my QX9650 and it's at 4.0 GHz at 1.37v. Great clock at nice volts. My WC setup is in my sig.

The strange thing is, with the exact same volts and the CPU at 3.6GHz, my Q6700 was getting temps about 8-10 degrees lower.

I used the same application technique I always have for the TIM (horizontal very thin line) and I've remounted 3 times in a row and the temps are staying the same!!!

So there are a few things I am suspecting.

1) The temp sensors on this chip are messed up.
2) I am retarded at applying TIM and need to be beaten behind the woodshed.
3) The Fuzion is not getting enough pressure on the chip because I used the TRUE backplate to mount it instead of the Fuzion backplate.
4) This is a very hot chip.

The only things in that loop right now are the CPU and NB.

The temps are 71 66 72 73 as I run small FFT. I wasn't even getting these temps on my old QX9650 which was at 1.44v for 4.0GHz.

all quads are very hot due to the proximity of cores, and the Overclocking...

What are you using to measure the temps? I suggest Coretemp.

use the penny mod!

also, you are running at 4.0 GHz, and the 45nm extreme chips are not THAT much cooler (the TDP for the QX9650 is 130W, the TDP for the Q6700 is 95W)

Small fft is really hard on the cpu but those do seem a little high, you could reseat and see what happens.

I vote 5. For you math whizzes, 2 + 3 = 5 (TIM and pressure)

Try a few remounts and see what kind of TIM spread you're getting each time.

Did anyone read the OP.

My guess is Laziness FTL 3) The Fuzion is not getting enough pressure on the chip because I used the TRUE backplate to mount it instead of the Fuzion backplate.

Can't do the penny mod with a D-Tek Fuzion

I've remounted three times and it sure looks like there is good spread (but not too thick) of TIM. The mounting screws on the Fuzion are bottomed out. I'm just wondering if maybe I should use the regular Fuzion backplate (since I need to replumb my loop anyway). I originally used the TRUE backplate because it is easier to keep aligned with the mounting sockets and also easier for quick swap outs for the CPU for when I was trying out a few different chips.

These temps are being measured in CoreTemp with Everest as a backup to corroborate.

Well, I guess I'll back off the OC a bit and then tomorrow or Sunday when I get around to my replumb I'll use the Fuzion's proper backplate (since the TRUE is going into the backup rig and needs it's backplate anyway).

if you cant do the penny mod, find some other way to get it mounted with more pressure. the screws bottoming out is not a good sign.

Well, the screws on this are meant to bottom out.

That's how the Fuzion promount works. My problem is, I used the TRUE backplate (which also is designed for the screws to bottom out) and I think that might be the problem.
