Default Water cooling... is it worth it?

I know this questions been asked before but ive been consdering water cooling recently and i want to ask the following questions:

1.) Performance wise what are the average temps you get with oc'd cpus?
2.) Is it dangerous to watercool the NB?
3.) Is there any cases in which watercooling is a bad idea?
4.) If i watercool my system will i be at risk of the tubes breaking or hurrendous spillage (lol that sounded funny) during installation?

Thanks for the answers guys

A-1) Idle temps usually stay within a degree or two. Load temps usually remain lower than air cooling.

A-2) WCing the NB would be ideal if the NB is the 780G chipset that has a truly full GPU built in, otherwise, a very good air cooling solution is best. Besides, WCing the NB may not be beneficial since the heat from the cooling loop may make it warmer.

A-3) With the high costs of today's hardware, nearly over the price of one troy ounce of gold, leaks are the biggest danger. Having an external cooling solution with only the required tubing to the cold-blocks is ideal. Having the pump, reservoir, rad in the case increases the risk exponentially.

A-4) See A-3 too. If an external cooling loop has the rad, pump, reservoir outside of the case where leaks will not damage the computer hardware, replacement costs and down time risk are greatly reduced.

There are a few after market kits like the Corsair Nautilus 500, Swiftech external kits, CoolIt, and Koolance kits that one can glean from for building your own (DIY) setup with great parts.

Others have used a mini-tower to house the WCing setup and ran only the two line to the main computer for the cold-blocks.

Research your options!

Answer to 2.)

Why would it be dangerous? Rather Ideal if you ask me, however you are running a q6600 which gets VERY hot, so if you plan adding your NB, get a bigger radiator or a bigger HSF for your Chipset.

Answer to 3.)

Yes, if you're not overclocking, don't get it.

Answer to 4.)

Something like that won't happen, unless you let a baby attempt to connect your tubing. Honestly, common sense must apply when putting your loop together - make all your Barbs tight.

Also, lay paper towels everywhere where a leak may occur. Don't plug power to your components, just jump the PSU to power on using a Paperclip and run the thing for a few hours - or until confident. Should any leaks occur bleed system and tighten what needs to be tightened - however this shouldn't happen if done right the first time.

There is no built pressure, its not like a fire hydrant waiting to burst.

if you really have the willys about water cooling you can always get a factory sealed unit - water block and all. the only thing you have to do is mount it in your case. water cooling has been around for a while and is a reliable means to cool your chips. dont sweat it - just jump in feet first.

Yeah, just get a kit if you really have the willies.

I Started with a Thermaltake BW- sold it, Gigabyte set - scrapped it, and now I have a custom loop (Swiftech blocks / pump / custom res. multiple radiators etc.). Also, get ready to buy a fulltower case if your plan going all out.

Coolit.com makes a range of factory sealed solutions to fit any budget. They use TECs in the radiators so they are actually chiller units. The prices are the same as traditional water solutions.

If you are thinking of getting the coolit, get the freezone/freezone elite, because the eliminator or pure can't handle the heat load of a q6600

Watercooling isn't worth the money in terms of over clocking .. but it sure is fun
