Default Liang DCC 3.2 Running Hot

What's the normal temperature for a Liang DCC 3.2 Pump?

I've attached a T-Balancer analog sensor to the side of the water pump and it's hitting anywhere from 48c to 55c depending on the amount of power applied to the motor. Is that rather high?

I dont know precisely how hot my DDC 3.2 is running ... but at touch it feels pretty hot sometimes ... Id imagine your temps are on the mark.

The DDC pump will run hot if the flow coming out hits to much resistance in the cooling loop. Resistance can be 90 degree turns in the loop, highly restrictive cold-blocks, dense micro-channel radiators, small fitting ID holes on the water cooling hardware.

If the flow coming out of the pump is relieved, the pump wouldn't have to work so hard and the flow would increase in speed.

Is the bottom of your pump open to air? Its important that you leave a little air space under them, the bottoms get really hot, that will get the rest of it hot...

I usually mount them on 6-32 all thread rods with springs and thumb nuts...Put a little rubber flat washer a 1/8-1/4" thick between the pump and case so it will raise the pump up a little and be open to the air...I used to put little 40x10mm fans blowing up onto to the bottom of them, I over-volted them a lot though, just leaving them open to air with the new blue impeller pumps should be fine...

The top pump in this first pic had a hole drilled through the aluminum shelf its sitting on so it was open to the air...

I have mounted them with the peel and stick foam that comes with them to, just stick it on and cut the center out, then install with just that or with studs....

Try running the pump without any resistance and see where the temperature settles, that should give you a baseline. My experience with aquarium pumps was that they would start to get very hot right before they failed. This was usually caused by calcium build up on the impeller causing it to work harder and generate more heat. If the pump temperature rises over time in your system then it needs service, if not then it just runs hot.

Actually it's the opposite regarding power consumption, it goes up as the restriction lowers and flow rates increase because the motor starts acting like an engine brake. I used to think the opposite until I started testing pumps and measuring power consumption.

The DDC's run hot on the bottom, they always have. I just like leaving the bottoms exposed, some folks will even have a fan blow over them. It's alot of power in an extremely cramped space, so heat develops, mostly on the base/bottom. The D5s don't seem to build up as much heat, but they also have a large open space under the motor cover where the DDC is pretty much a plastic cover righ over the PCB and motors. They both get most of their cooling from the water and suspended impeller, but the DDC does get a bit hot on the base.

Here is one, those are fans mounted to the base of the pumps:

I've seen several other pretty neat setups with fans as well but I can't seem to find them right now.
