Default WC: Need help with TtBW Pump

Hello WC Gurus,

Modki here, as you may or may not know I am the Air Cooling type so I have no experience with Watercooling but I understand the principles and what to do, just never had a need to do it.

I have in my possession a computer with a pump problem, namely it may or may not be shot. Now it has a regular power plug but the yellow cable runs off of it and into the CPU_Fan of the motherboard.

My Question: How would I get this pump running without having the computer on? I want to see if it even works anymore.

Thus far I've turned the PC on once to see if it would start the pump but it didn't move anything and I didn't want to risk frying anything so I shut it off. I don't know if this is a special setting in the CMOS that tells it not to turn on before a certain temp or what. I want to make the pump start using a spare PSU I have. I was thinking about hooking the CU_Fan part of it up to another power source but was sure of the exact method to go about doing this. And I can't afford to ruin the PC trying stuff.

Thank you.

Use a 3 pin to molex adapter and connect the pump to a separate power supply that way. Then use a piece of wire to jump the green wire and black wire next to it. Keep the wire in there and the power supply will be turned on.

I don't know that much about power supplies and electric stuff, so I won't say either way. But given that it's a thermaltake pump, I really wouldn't be surprised if it's dead.

yea just like TNB said jump the PSU, im sure you know how to do this (green and black on the 20/24pin) and get a 3 pin to molex and just plug it up...you dont want to run it too long because remember, its a water pump, not air pump..so just a second or 2 to make sure it does work should be enough.

Actually I've taken the long hose leading off the exhaust to the intake, a little circle so I can see if things are moving, hehe. I know better than to run air through it.

Roger that, I know how to jump the PSU but I was worried about CPU_Fan =/= Yellow Wire. But if you can use an adapter I can probably just touch them together safely enough.

As far as not burning up the pump hook up a hose on the inlet and outlet and put them in a pitcher of water. Then you could actually see if water is flowing, pull the outlet out of the water.
