Yupp, too much thermal grease would definitely yield higher temperatures... for the Quads, you want to apply it like this:
![]() So just a small strip in the middle running parallel to the long side of the motherboard. Some folks also go for just a small dab right smack in the middle, but i personally have gotten better results with the above procedure

I have a Q6600 at 3.3Ghz that is idling 35C and loading 47/48C with an ambient of 25C (it's hot in the Netherlands at the moment). And next time read up on how to fit a CPU+Cooler

ok applied a lot less goop this time ,
__________________as start and that dropped temps from 61 max to 57-58 ambient is about 20c (MasterFire I have a drop in temps due to altitude compared to you LOL :P ) so a 3 to 4c drop ( slightly higher ambient) ( got take the dragon out for a pizza now but left occt running to see what she maxes out at ) I may try a little less ac5 as I always err on the side of caution ![]() but idle was about 31c which is good for 1.42vcore is that still high do we think though ? also does anybody know if you need to lap a d-tek V2 ? as it looks pretty flat and mirror finish to start with ? cpu is not lapped by the way ![]() ![]()

![]() When I put my TIM on I spread it on the IHS with a razor blade, really work it from side to side and front to back, make a see through layer, you just want it on really thin...Do the same to your block...Then I just put a little dot in the center... With a quad you might be better off with a line...Less is more with TIM...

HI all
__________________I have another confession to make now , ambient temps were actually about 23-25c ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() the crappy temp gauge I have in my study (in the loft ) was way off ![]() so I took my altimeter/barometer I use for mountaineering up let it settle for 2 hours while the m/c was running prime blend and it was recording 24.5 while the old one was at 16-18c ![]() so now I am running a q6700 at 58-60c with 1.425vcore 100% load at 24c ambient !!! idles around 32c so is that more like the temps I should be seeing for water cooling ![]() or should they be like another 5-10c lower ? is that sort
