just finished my install.. it's documented on youtube:
__________________I havn't done any stress testing yet but the processor is only an e8400, I was planning on trying to OC to 4GHz but when I first got to bios and went to check temps my idle is at 40C ??? that doesn't seem right, I havn't even OC'd yet I could reset but I'm sure it's secure... I'll check load temps and repost but is this normal idle for watercooling??

Going Broke Overclocking
![]() |
The TIM application could be part of the reason.
1. To much 2. To little. 3. AS5 and the 3-4 day cure time 4. uneven draw on the fasteners of the block 5. Any combination of some of all of the above

bios, speedfan, coretemp are all 10C high on a 45nm chip. so you were idling at 30 which is great. get into windows and use realtemp.

It is hard for idle temps to get lower vs air cooling. However, WC really shines at load.

I hope so because I just ordered $350 worth of water cooling stuff for my E8400 to replace my Tuniq Tower, which idled at 33c.

Also to the OP, definitely check your temps in Windows with CoreTemp, BIOS readings are not very accurate.

I usually do 4 or 5 remounts and let it burn in a week or two in between each one with a new block, then try to work back down to the lowest temp that I get...Make sure you have all the air out of your rad, take it loose and shake it if you can, tilt your box around front to back and side to side to get all the air out of your blocks and fittings..
WC'ing idle will be higher the higher your v-core is, but the delta between idle and load will be much smaller..Load is where the rubber meets the road.. With mine I idle 4-5C above room ambient and I load at 12-13C above room ambient, Prime loaded for a hour or so...Thats with a 3500mhz OC and about a 1.5 v-core on this dual core...
