Default AC Pumps - Any reason not to?

I'm starting to look into building a WC system for my PC, but haven't been into water cooling in quite some time(mostly 2002 and earlier):

http://mkosem.fortunecity.com/water2.html
http://mkosem.fortunecity.com/water3.html

Anyways, when I was last water cooling CPUs AC pumps were the standard. There weren't really any long-term reliable DC pumps that were widely available at the time, so that's what we used. I kind of prefer the reliability and longeivty of AC pumps, and am considering using an Eheim 1250 in my build.

Is there any reason not to use them? I never had any issues using them previously, and I want to make sure that I'm not buying into something that was later found to be a nono.

There's nothing wrong with using an AC pump, the major downside I see is the need of an additional power pass-through and a relay to power on the pump when the PC comes on; it'd be too easy to forget to plug the pump power back in when moving the rig. DC pumps are very reliable these days, so I personally would just go with either a D5 or a DDC

I dunno. I normally have my computer on 24/7 so I'd probably just leave the pump on all the time anyways. I have a passthrough PC power connector that I could use to make sure that it's always plugged in when the computer is plugged in. Just wanted to make sure that no one discovered them to be damaging or anything. I ran with them for years without problems but, ya know, technology sometimes changes :-)

Aah, found pics of my last WC rig... Tis a shame :-)

But yeah, I think I'll stick with AC. Thank you!

AC are fine, there are some pretty powerful reliable DC pumps now..D-5 Vario..Thats my favorite one there. Not a lot of heat dump with it either.

I'm running a AC Iwaki on my main loop now, the WMD 20 RZ.
