Default Removing HS for Radiator

I want to remove the mosfet on the Asus P5! Deluxe. It is currently interfering with my radiator and I was just wondering if it has any important function. Thanks for your comments in advanced.

Yes. The mosfet heatsinks are very necessary.

Yes it is necessary. Improper mosfet cooling can lead to instability.

Do not remove those. They are there for a reason
You might have to mount your rad externally

I usually take all the heat pipe junk off and replace it..You'll need ram sinks on the v-reg's and a HSF for NB and SB..I keep a fan blowing over the v-reg's on top and I usually have some blowing on the back of the mobo to, on the ram,CPU and v-reg's....Save your heat-pipe stuff in case you want to put it back on to sell it or whatever..

I don't know if these will fit your v-regs or not, they look pretty nice if they are spaced right for yours...Enzotech MOS-C1 Forged Copper Mosfet Heatsinks

These are what I use on v-reg's...Enzotech Ram Sinks

Here are some small ones i haven't tried yet, they would be nice to get on the tight ones for sure...Enzotec small v-reg sinks

NB....Swifty Chip HSF

SB....Enzotech SLF-1 Low Profile Copper Chipset Cooler

This are good to keep from chipping your chips.....Microcool - Core Protective Rubbers

But Ira is that not just replacing heat sinks with heat sinks...and smaller ones at that save the sb & nb heat sinks which have active fan cooling???

Yup......But they are pure copper and cool really well as long as you have some air blowing over them..The stock heat pipe cooling is pretty pitiful usually, you can take it off and lap them if needed and it helps some, but I think his was a clearance issue, if it was height wise using the low profile copper sinks might take care of it...Hey its a option at least, and will cool better then stock...

I would say un-needed TBH

I can't imagine them being very different to the P5K-E MOSFETs - of which the only board which has a heatsink is the Premium.

My WiFi overclocks very well with no heatsinks on the MOSFETs and they don't really get that hot with a fan near them

The good thing about replacing the stockers with individual heatsinks is warping of the motherboard won't make any mosfets loose contact like the stock ones can.

Anyhow, I'd rather run air, then pull mosfet heatsinks off. They are very important to maintaining good power to your CPU, probably moreso than the gain in watercooling over air cooling.

Maybe mount the radiator on top and build a nice shroud to cover the top.?
