Whats the best material to make it out of and would also like to make one first out of cheap plastic just to see about fitting it in.

Is acrylic expensive to a point where this would be ridiculous to build or what?

More insight would be appreciated

I guess poly-carbonate is about the easiest stuff to work with now, as far as crack out and all that goes...I hate all of it myself, I will get about 99.9% done with a little project and it will crack out...But thats just me, you might love it...It looks great when its done right..

You can get thin sheets of acrylic at most hardware stores for $10 bux or under to practice with..I use a roofing square and a Stanley razor knife to cut mine with, just use the square as a guide and make several shallow cuts with the knife in the same place, put it on the edge of a hard table top or bench edge and push down and if your lucky it will snap off where you scored it..It cuts like glass if you've ever done that..I just mix plexi scraps with Acetone and let it sit overnight in a little jar to make my glue, you want it kind of thick, I just use a nail or knife to apply it with..You can and should buy proper glue when you get ready to make a res..

CD is the plexi master around here, he can work magic with it, here is one of his guides..How to: Work With Acrylic? ...

Acrylic isnt that bad. Tap Plastics and US Plastics has a nice selection. You dont need lexan strength, thats when it starts getting pricy. Just google search them and you will find what you need.

Yeah i asked CD he just said "Yea" when i asked him its possible to make it....but that was all. Is bonding polycarbonate the same as acrylic? is it just a solvent that melts the plastic?

Oh and i have an 2 bay reservoir that i dont use could i cut some acrylic out of that and pratice with it?

Sorry but I just don't really know, I avoid using any of it......I'm sure you can Google and find out all about the proper solvents, I would be glad to tell you if I knew...But yeah they just more or less melt into each other..

I'd just grab a little sheet of the cheap thin stuff at a hardware store...By the time you cut up your res there wouldn't be much left to practice on, the thicker stuff is hard to score and snap to...Its usually cut with jig saws with plastic cutting blades...They have plas-bits for drilling it to...I used to just use normal drill bits and run the drill in reverse, it more or less melts its way through but it works good, and helps to keep you from cracking it out...

Weldon products. I think its weldon 3 and 4, depending on your choice. It melts acrylic, not glue it. Waterproof. Google that too, its what I would recomend.

Thanks, I really want to know how they drill the ports on them. Is it just a special drill bit that does that type of stuff? Thats the only part thats totally left out of cyberdruids How to on acrylic. Also how thick do you recommend? i was thinking only 1/8th thick considering how small the area would be.

I think this is gonna turn out to be a build log

When I was going to build my own Res, I bought 1/8, it was plenty thick and strong enough for my needs. So you should be fine.

well if you were going to do it you'd be making the extra plastic or w\e go into the case not poke an inch extra out so keep it flesh and put the extra in but also... my tuniq tower doesn't fit with a side panel fan so be careful on the measurements i had to cut part of the fan off so my side panel would fit on.

Cool we like build logs, with lots of pic's...

They have the special plas-bits here and blades to..Fabrication Tools ...Yeah 1/8" should be plenty, especially if you put a center divider down the middle...1/4' looks sicker though i think, just really thick and heavy duty looking, looks hard-core...
