Hi. Im thinking of making a homemade liquid cooling system, but I would like to know anything that I should know. Will It be efficient? Im planning on getting a radiator the size of about a square foot. It will be cooled with a square fan. Also im gonna be using a Pond Pump. This is mostly because I am bored, and I really don't wanna spend 150 + bucks on a lc system.

I am doing this exact thing right now...I can tell you alot of things if you havent gotten started yet...first off you need a good water block...if you dont have a drill press or better yet a CNC machine then your SOL on building your own block...well at least a good one...I know becouse im trying now. if you have a pond pump then now you need to decide on how large you want your barbs and hose...get yourself 10-15' of tygon tubing or something like it, that way you can check your pumps head. put your pump in a bucket and hold up your tubing as high as you can and see how hight the water gets before it stops, thats your head. you also need a bunch of barbs and some kind of container for a res. you also dont want any aluminum in your loop anywhere...huge no no. make sure the inside of your rad is not aluminum if it is you need a copper one. for blocks I sudgest looking into what ones are good and what ones are not. then see if anyone is selling one used. otherwise your gonna need to do alot of reserch about block designs and then buy a large block of copper to play with. im finding its not so fun to try to make one that dosnt leak. anyway here is a link to my worklog.

I'm in the middle of that very thing right now... I am using 2 fishtank pumps, a fishtank, and regular vinyl hosing from the store. The cpu block, however, you pretty much have to buy. Me and one of my friends are building the system, and we tried to make a copper heatsink, but it's just too hard! To cool the water in the fishtank, we run the water through a mini fridge. Right now, we have everything hooked up except for the cpu cooler (Still looking for a cheap solution) BTW, we are doing this on an old celeron machine, not my sig machine! Our setup is large and unpractical, and it will be coming apart as soon as I head off to college.

We have tubing runing through two holes in the side of the fridge. The fridge is a little older, so we figured that we could at least have a little fun with it before it is completely dead. Also, we siliconed around the holes in the side of the fridge.

yeah but just so you know...if you do a search for cooling with a fridge you will find that everyone who has tried it ended up with a dead fridge...also I hope you insolated your mobo well if your chilling. wouldnt want condensation to build up on it.

If you haven't already gotten a pump and rad I'd look at these..A bonnie heater-core, fits 2 120mm fans just right..Barbs for heatercore? ..And a Via Aqua pump..How To silence a Via Aqua
I's use a shroud on the HC, it will help...How to make a dual heater core fan shroud...

Anqt, fridges compressors (or whatever it is that makes it cold) can only work in short bursts. When you open the door, the air gets a bit colder and so the fridge runs for a minute to cool it back down, then shuts off until the temp drops below a point.
air conditioners are much better suited for this type of thing, and being used for more than 5 minutes. Chris, I would recommend getting the heatercore than Ira linked you, as well as the fan shroud guide. Look for a cheap used water block somewhere (I think there are some things to be careful about, but ask Ira-K about that).
