Hey thats great that you want to make one yourself......This thread has a lot of ideas and links, I think I left some links to easy homemade ones in the first few pages of it..BlockHeads: the thread ....Lots of great info all through it, I'd sure read it...Do a work log when you build it, we love pic's...

I have one I've been making with a hack-saw and coping saws for a while now, just put a little wax on the blades and they wont hang as badly......I need to make a brass jacket and solder it to the base, then a top and mounts...It took a while to saw out and I haven't worked on it in months, but hey I just sawed on it off and on when I was sitting around...Its a triple nipple, thats why the center is a little lower, trying to keep the flow over the core a bit longer...

just connect a funnel to ur cpu and pee into it. u can even let the whole family do it to, just give the women a funnel so they dont hit the mobo!

nice ira-k i like that, looks easy but maybe complicated to remove the borders, i know that diamond shape is better than the square pillars, do you know how could i modify that in that design ?

When you make your lines at 90 degree angles to each other like I did, straight up and down, then side to side, and have the flow going diagonally from one corner to the other, the little pillars will be diamond shaped for the flow...Do you see what I mean? Look at mine, and have your inlet barb in the lower left corner and the outlet in the upper right corner, the flow will be hitting on the corners of a diamond, more or less anyway......It hard to get them perfect with a hack saw......Mine even with a center inlet and 2 outs in opposite corners will still be kind of diamond shaped..

What I would do is saw down a 1/8" or so then use a dremal with a re-enforced cut off wheel to open iot up, when I bottomed that out I would saw down another 1/8" or so then do it again.

Leave the base pretty thick when you saw the sides off, that way it will be sturdy, after you solder the jacket on it you can lap the base out thin then...Files help to, I have a couple of full sized, second cut and I have needle files to...But you can get by with a full size second cut mill file and a three sided to clean up the edges with...

For the top you could use a piece of delrin or acrylic with 2 holes tapped for G1/4 threads. This would require you to buy a tap but thats only like $5 and would b great to have if you ever planned on building more blocks. You would then have to use a piece of gasket material(found at ace hardware) between the top and the bottom and of course use a bunch of bolts around the edges to hole the two plates together. While this will not be the best block it will be homemade and it should work. Check out some of the pics of the blocks I made here. They were made with a mill but are not very complicated and could be made with a drill press as long as you are patient. The top I made had 1 in 4 out but it would have been a lot easier to make a 1 in 1 out. The dimples also don't have to be in a specific pattern the could just have easily been a completely random organization.
VERY NICE! Been toying around with doing one myself (My Dad has a CNC) But I don't wanna hear a pump. I remember some guys years ago were doing them with the steam going up to a finned cooler and then draining back but I haven't been able to find the links anymore.

Oh that would be a lot harder to do...The only way I can think of off hand would be to make your pins over size then file the diamonds down to thin cross section like that, maybe it might work....But like that you would just have over-sized diamonds to...It would be rough...If you think of a easy way let us know...If I can think of a way I'll let you know to...

It was a pain to make them like I did...You might try making your pins smaller instead of thinner, that would give you more surface area at least, but much thinner then mine and they bend to easy..

If your really patient and like file work you can make almost any shape or design you would like with "Grobet Die Sinkers" they are needle riffler files, it would be slow going but with a steady hand and a lot of patients you can file anything out...You can get a lot of shapes and they are mostly $30-60 for each one, but they will last for a long time on soft copper...You can get the on e-Bay cheap sometimes, a lot of them are seconds form there though..

They have some really nice ones here....McMaster-Carr...Just search for "die sinker files"..

hi guys its me again.

i bought the cooper, i have a 20x6x1cm bar, the problem is that i just realize that my mobo its a little bit tricky...

as you can see in the picture it only let me work from the centrer to the right or from the centrer down.

and i'm not sure about the sizes...

i'm planing to do it this week, so i don't have much time but any way i have a big peace of copper so i can make up to 3 maybe 4 blocks :P

oh.. hehe and the question is, should i go for the block #1 #2 #3 or #4 ?

PS: the copper smells bad and it don't look good, how can i make it shine like # 4 ?

#3 would b the most ideal design, however, probably the most time consuming. the general idea is 2 create a design that has the most surface area for the water 2 come n contact with the block while keeping it free flowing.
