im getting ready to build a new Intel Q6600/EVGA 750i FTW rig to replace my sig rig...thing is , the water-cooling componets i currently have wont cool the Q6600 i plan on getting...i have a Swiftech Apogee GT , a D5 vario pump and a Chevette heater core cooling my current cpu. so with the addition of my new components , and the lack of my current cooling system being able to cool the quad core , im thinking of moving back to air cooling. ive seen great overclocks achieved on air cooling these days and its a whole lot cheaper. any opinions on whether or not im thinking clearly about this ?

you could upgrade the block and rad for around $160.... That would cool a Q6600 quite nicely.

I have a Q6600 running at 30° under an Appogee and a D5...I have a Bonniville heater core for a radiator though
The CPU is running at 3.0GHz and stock volts though, but even with all four cores under a full load(which won't hapen in normal apps) the highest I've hit is 34°

i know i need a new block for it...i think a Fuzion would do nicely...thing is , im kinda on a budget and a good air cooler is much cheaper than the Fuzion and a new rad...plus , ive been overclocking for a couple years now and im no expert by any means , but cpu temps have never been high enough for me to really justify water cooling...air coolers are achieving very close to water cooling lately...

I'd give the Appogee a try first...if it doesn't do the job then try some thing else
If it doesn't work sell it to me I have a E6600 and a 4200X2 that I'd like to have under water

I'd get a Bonnie core for it, just another $30-40 for one, use some higher cfm fans on it and a shroud..You use 120x38mm fans already don't you?
Roll your own.. ..Barbs for heatercore? ..How to make a dual heater core fan shroud... Or DD has them already to go...Bonnie Or just try it with a HSF first and see how it goes, he if your not really tryingot push your v-core it might be enough...

If I were to do it again I would go with the Danger Den one. I went to NAPA for both of mine and paid $20 for each of them and then the fittings cost another $5 each. Then I bought a brazing torch and solder that I've never used for another purpose but I didn't like the idea of "sweating" the hoses on. I probally would have been better off buying one.

I'd think it would be better then a HSF, you might not get top WC'ing temp's, but I bet you would be close...
Use a shroud to, that will get you several more C, I'd have it pulling with a HC...Thats a pretty good guide I left for a HC shroud... Hey $30 for a Bonnie isn't anymore then you would spend on a good HSF..You can always cut that Chevette core into your loop to, since its a CPU only with the D-5 you shouldn't have any low flow problems...
