as the title suggests, i'm thinking of going liquid, but i really have no idea where to start. chances are ill be sticking with socket AM2/AM2+ so a cpu block that would fit that would be needed.
i was looking at complete kits, like the Bigwater 760i or 780i, how would something like that compare to a customized wc setup? would it be something for a beginner or do they suck the big one. i just ordered a CM690, so thats how much room i have to play with. also, im getting a BFG 8800GTS (G80) 640mb, should i bother using water cooling for it? budget would be about $250CAD tops. i get paid next friday so ill be researching as much as i can before i buy/commit to anything. Thanks all, - Flatliner.

Don't get the thermaltake kits, they are garbage. You will want to buy all your parts seperately. It might be tough to squeeze a good system in for $250CAD, I am assuming you pay a little more in canada/shipping to canada from the states.
Do you know of any stores that ship to canada that carry good watercooling parts? I live in the states so I am not really sure. Edit: Just looking at NCIX getting a Swiftech MCP655 pump, DTek Fuzion v2 CPU waterblock, Swiftech Micro Reservoir and a 3x120 Swiftech Quiet Power Raditaor for ~$215CAD no shipping. You will need a few other things in addition to those but that is the bulk of the cost.

Stay as far away from those Bigwater kits as you possibly can. I have read of some horror stories about failing pumps, cracking blocks, etc. This is aside from the fact a Tuniq or other good air cooler will probably trounce it.
There are GOOD kits out there though. Watercooling Kits at Petra's Swiftech Kits at Performance PCs EDIT: Doh! Canada Depending on your needs, there are good Swiftech kits here that will suit you. They're nice because they are just a compilation of Swiftech's standalone parts tossed into one box for your convenience.

Yeah the swiftech kits are alright. If you are just cooling your CPU I would suggest this if you want a kit rather than buying everything by itself:

You can look around here in the "For Sale" section and get good gear cheap at times, or just buy the best piece that you can afford, just buy a piece at a time till you have a good loop put together...Kits are always a compromise, those 2 above aren't bad and are easy to upgrade, if you just have to have a kit I would go no less then the ones already linked...
I'll leave you my cleaning and set-up PDF and a couple of things to read,be sure to read al the stickies here also, a lot of good info in them..Take your time picking parts, decide whats right for you, all out performance, quiet computing or somewhere in between... ..Water Cooling - In English ..Assembling your Custom Watercooling Setup ..D-Tek Fuzion install tip! NCIX.COM + petrastechshop.com + performance-pcs
do it all there, i would buy most of the kit at petras, and if need anything to upgrade that checkout performance and even ncix for hardware.
